Spiritual Successor to the Microprose Classic “Red Storm Rising”

After tracking a Soviet landing force bound for Iceland it is time to plan your attack. Do you silently close in to torpedo the landing ships and escape during the resulting chaos? Or strike with long-range missiles but risk counterattack from the enemy escorts? Have you detected them all, could another submarine be out there listening for you? Has the hunter become the hunted? Will you survive the Cold Waters?

Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, take command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.

You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.

Major Features:
- Real-time naval combat
- Over 40 classes of ships and submarines all meticulously researched
- Dynamic Campaign where your performance matters
- Realistic sonar model
- Authentic Soviet combat tactics

WTF.. Finally some good old Cold War days. Hope they make something good out of it.

Though it reminds me more of Jane's Fleet Command or Dangerous Waters with the 3D mode and all that.

Thanks for the info!!

@VGAdeadcafe
Wow, wtf?

So "Cold Waters" is stealing from that game, or are both games related somehow?

Killerfish games created a simple turn-based iOS game about ww2 naval warfare. It later got ported to PC, I just played the tiny pirate release of it ... it is weird to see naval warfare in turn based games. "Oh now it's the enemies turn, so his ships and his torpedoes move" lol Laughing

Anyway, it's not totally bad. Look for IGG-Atlantic.Fleet or the Unleashed rip. That game is about 137mb heh

This thread is about their new game, I am guessing they are using the same game engine and/or ideas (?)

The cool videos make things seem way more impressive than they actually are Very Happy

Thanks for the hint. I'll try the older product just to see what kind of gameplay to expect here. Since they are referencing Red Storm Rising which wasn't a complex game IIRC, this might suggest at what strategy level they're aiming for.

The older product was made for iOS originally, this is for PC/Mac. So this will be deeper and more realistic but not to the extent of Dangerous Waters.

It seems they want to have semi-realistic equipment and general game behaviour but streamlined controls.

Looks simplified, but perhaps with just enough depth to keep it both accessible and interesting. I have to try the single missions and the campaign some more to see if it's worth buying. The music score seems pretty well done.

Best one I ever played was Epyx's Destroyer back in the C-64 days. WW2, multi-crew and stations game with varied missions. Lots of fun. It would be great if someone would make one like that today.
