I just want to get my wing commander fix and play S42, damn.
I have no interest on a galaxy populated by ppl acting batcrazy and playing with idiotic manners. weeee i smashed against you, weee im rocket jumping inside the station, weeee ive jumped 998 times around the landing pad! what fun and normal thing to do as an inteligent spacefaring race like us! Weeee
Edit: What im trying to say is that i prefer games with NPCs that behave more like persons than to play games with real people that behave more like clowns or cartoons.

Being sceptical and critical of something is now narrowminded?
Do I really need to repeat that NOBODY here wants Star Citizen to fail? We WANT the game to be great, we want it to push boundaries. But within the realm of reason. With the money pouring in Roberts abandoned the impressive yet reasonable scope in favour of an ever-expanding list of goals well beyond anything mentioned in the original kickstarter. Nobody would have complained about adding more to the game as long as there was afully functional (and by that I mean playable at 60FPS @1080p on a med/high settings on a PC from the last 3 years from whenever the release date is) core. And there isn't one, not yet.
And all of that would have been ignored if they didn't have such a shitty demeanour towards anyone who disagrees with them or is any way critical of the game and if they weren't so keen on on selling more concepts and pipe dreams for insane amounts of money.
So to expect undying devotion to a project with this many problems and controversies is a bit much, don't you think?

Please don't pretend to speak for everyone.
You sound more reasonable than most around here, if not terribly informed. You can't build a "core" just like that - when the core involves rewriting almost everything in the engine. That would mean constantly redoing everything for every significant change - and you'd risk end up with something that couldn't expand without breaking apart.
They're through the worst parts of it now, which is why we're seeing much more content at a much faster rate. It will be exponential - and 2017 will see much, much more "functionality" than many seem to think.
I'm not asking for or expecting anything from strangers on a bitchy forum. I'm simply saying most of you are narrowminded when it comes to Star Citizen.
Asking for a 10 million dollar game when they're approaching 130 million dollars makes no sense to me at all. As Erin Roberts said, delivering such a game with such a budget would be a huge insult to the audience.
They asked the community about whether to continue growing the game and increasing its funding - and the vast majority said "yes".
So, they did. Now, people want them to stop because they're too ignorant to understand what a game of this scope takes. Hint: it takes more than 2 years in full development.
So if they made 10 mil they would release a modern Wing Commander spiritual sequel in a reasonable timeframe. But because they hit infinite money they now have embarked on an unprecedented effort to release the most epic space game the world has ever seen. And that will take several years of effort and a lot more ship sales.
Alright, let's see what will come of it. I ain't going anywhere
EDIT: Weren't they supposed to release the SQ42 singleplayer thingy separately with a much reduced scope anyway? What about that idea?

That's exactly right, except SQ42 was never reduced in scope - quite the opposite. It has expanded a lot in scope.
@Casus
I wasn't speaking for everyone. I just assumed, since nobody has any vested interest in seeing the game fail, that everyone would really, really, REALLY want a worthy successor to Wing Commander.
I'd love to see more 'functionality' in 2017, but they said that about 2016 too. We were supposed to have at least 1 episode of SQ42 this winter or spring at the latest.
And like I said, being critical =/= narrow-minded. Being skeptical but hopeful is healthy. There are legitimate concerns about the game, and they're being brushed off as hate every time they're brought up.
4 years from the start of the kickstarter, where he had a working prototype and 120 million dollars later, and there's almost nothing show for it. And I've tried the game on several instances, only to find a poorly optimized bugfest, And it can never be said enough: Fuck G force. Up the ass.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Roberts should have had an EA style executive breathing down his neck this entire time. One that would have stopped the ballooning scope and the inevitable feature creep that followed.
I hope SQ42 does come out late 2017 as promised, so it can make all these discussions moot.
Till then, I reserve my right to be a distrustful, grumpy cynic.
So how is the game in its state now ? Is it worth a buy ? Is it just flying a spaceship or is there any FPS elements in it now ?
Nothing is finished in any way.
There are no gameplay elements, except Arena Commander, which are deathmatches in space, in buggy ships (that you need to buy individually).
The Persistent Universe MMO side is a star system with some comm arrays, couple of non functional space stations and one main spacestation you can walk around in. Oh, and a shopping centre (I kid you not).
The game is buggy, incredibly slow due to poor netcode affecting the FPS, and poor graphical optimisations.
I advise NOT purchasing at this time, purely because there is no game to purchase, and there is very little evidence of there ever being one (don't listen to Casus et all, they're just bitter fanbois who can't face reality).

The game is great and definitely worth your shekels, I mean look at all these nice ships you can buy here goyim
He's right, I've misled everyone. The game was finished last month, I've been playing it constantly, and I'm currently level 43 with 5 ships, and a lot of credits.

It's still in a very early stage. There's quite a bit of fun to be had, if you can stomach bugs and crashes - but I would recommend waiting for 3.0. They're targeting end of the year for 3.0 - but I wouldn't expect it until Q1 2017.
That said, yes, there are some FPS elements in it now. It's basically a big sandbox map with a few missions and some space stations where you can engage in FPS combat with other players. There's persistence now, which means you can buy clothing and stuff in shops - but it's all rather rudimentary. Think of it as an elaborate tech demo with a lot of glitches.
3.0 has been demonstrated at Gamescom:
It should also have "Star Network 1.0" in it - which means performance should be quite improved - and it will also have their new planet technology, which you can see here:
Unless you're an enthusiast and you really want to support the game - I would wait 3-6 months until it's out.
We certainly don't need another Kaltern constantly pointing out bugs in an early alpha version like it's a new concept or, somehow, unfair

Can't wait till this game comes out and all the haters eat their words.
Being right about something online would be sweet if that was what happened.
But people generally don't have the integrity to admit anything in public.
What will likely happen is that people will conveniently forget what they've said - and pretend they were just being naturally sceptical - instead of supremely ignorant of the details
Are you talking about yourself and these other SC fanbois being ignorant about how the game will never be anything and anyone with IQ higher than 50 can tell that.

You just gave the perfect example of what I'm talking about, thanks

Thankfully, time will tell.
Yes, yes it will. Just to confirm that majority here are correct
