I leeched the US Demo disc to have all 18 demos and to try them.

All report back.

I only got Eve Valkyrie as day 1 full version because I played the demo already in PS VR and I liked it very much.

For your £349, you won't actually get any games with the headset. Though in the box you'll find a demo disc with cutdown versions of:

Driveclub VR
RIGS Mechanized Combat League
Tumble VR
PlayStation VR Worlds
Battlezone
EVE Valkyrie
Headmaster
Wayward Sky
While none of those are full games, eight demos are a good start – but over in the US, they're getting 18 (wtf!).

WTF indeed!

I go and read the PSVR reddit and get crazy excited from the reactions over there, then I go and read Kotaku and their army of retards in the comments and get discouraged. Kotaku is really shitting all over PSVR.

So.........

I tried a few games demos

So far my favorite is PS VR Worlds (yeah I know)...

The most immersive game is in there : London Heist... This one is sooooo good.

Even without PS Move, the Dual Shock 4 acts as 1 move, so it works really good.

For example : some guy lends you a cell phone and you need to have your hand next to your ear to hear the conversation...

Or at some point you can smoke a cigare, you have to light it up, and using the mike in the headset, you can actually SMOKE and spit out smoke, really amazing lol

DriveClub VR was a major disappointment though, cuz of the shitty downgrade and also cuz I dont have a steering wheel, so playing with a DS4 feels weird for my brain (a bit better if I enable Sixaxis to use the DS4 as a wheel).

Until Dawn is amazing...

Cinema feature to use movies/old games in a big theater screen is a major disappointment for me, you feel too close to the screen, even with the smallest screen, kinda like first row in the cinema...

I'm really enthusiastic for now because it's new for me... But it's possible that in the long term it's another Kinect and after trying the 18 demos and the few games I bought, then I'm done...

I only tried 5 games though so far Razz

Allllllright.

Goddamn.

Did get a chance to finally play last night, and for the reasons below, was not able to post until now, lol.

Descent
Or whatever it's called. The ocean diving one. Pretty awesome. But basically what you expect out of VR at this point. You sit there and look around, don't do much. It's definitely badass, but this is coming from someone who had yet to be wowed from VR. Some of you PC folk probably wouldn't be as blown away. But being fresh to me, damn it looked good, and I enjoyed looking around. I can't tell you how badly I wanted to reach out and touch the shit attached to the little cage thingy.

London Heist
Ok. Now we're getting somewhere. This was fucking awesome. Although, as a demo, super limited. I mean, I couldn't even light the money on fire. wtf. Crying or Very sad It's also silly when someone is yelling at you and threatening you with a blowtorch, all I can do was try and tickle his chin with my virtual hand. He had no reaction to this. But anyways. This game/demo felt great. Even though it was on rails and/or I was stuck plopped in a fixed location, it just felt good. The tech worked well and I had an awesome time. I had 2 of the globe motion controllers. I can't even express the huge smile on my face during this little puzzle segment where you get to interact with a desk.

But at the same time, I did experience a few issues here. I couldn't really tell if the game was operating the way it was supposed to. I had a hell of a time trying to shoot people from behind that desk. I could either duck through and look through just a tiny space, or I could look over sort of, but it seemed like there was an invisible wall blocking my shots over the desk. I couldn't stand up either, because my setup was calibrated to me sitting, so if I stood, it blacked the game out and said I was out of range. Dang. Sad

But if this is a hint of things to come, I love it. There is an enormous chance my setup is not optimal, I set it up VERY quickly because I was too excited. I'm going to try and calibrate everything later today properly.

Scavenger
Alright. Goddamn. This is where shit went south on me. The game itself seems badass. Enjoyed looking around from the cockpit of my roach mobile thing, enjoyed seeing the arms/hands move when I moved the joystick on the controller, etc. Game felt smooth, worked great. Oh but holy fuck did I get sick from this game. Even from quitting immediately when I started to feel fucked up, I was down for the count for the next 2 hours which eventually just led to me going to sleep for the night, lol. Felt totally fine the other 2 games, but this one really fucked me up. Hopefully when I re-arrange my setup and optimize properly, some of this might go away, because the game felt great, but I've read enough to know to NOT power through the VR sickness. After that, was not able to play anything else for the night.

Summary
All in all, as someone who was never wow'd yet by VR stuff, I goddamn love it, and can't wait to get the fuck back in there. Some of it is quite silly, some of the tech was a little buggy, but it didn't even come close to ruining any of the experience for me. Still got the other VR Worlds games to go, and then I got the entire demo disc to go. Don't own any full games yet, but we'll see what I want after I get through. Hopefully the sickness gets better with time. Smile

Love it/10

EDIT:

Ok, WOW. Now I'm impressed. The VR Playroom thing has a little game called Robot Rescue. It's basically like some of the other things heard of where you look down at a platformer from above and can look around while controlling a guy.

This little game KICKED ASS. It is by far my favorite experience so far. It felt so good, it played so good, everything felt natural, the details they gave it were AWESOME. Like when the "camera" (you) moves through dangling vines they get pushed outta' the way. And when you have to go through a little cave, your VR perspective is "too big" so the cave crumbles around you as you go through.

And then the AWESOME thing where your controller gets rendered and mirrors your movements 1:1, including button presses (so cool to see the joystick wiggle around exactly as I move it, without seeing my hand, lol), and you get to SWIPE a cord from the rendered controller to these hook points on the map. Then you have to make your guy jump on the connected hook to cross big gaps and stuff.

Goddamn, this felt so good, and I'm only so sad that there isn't more. That could EASILY be a FULL $60 game if it were longer. And you REALLY have to look around too, to find the missing robots. I almost missed one because I had to look straight down where usually you'd find death. And there one was, way down and I was able to jump right down there and get him.

This little game legitimately felt like the re-birth of 3d platformers, I'm talking Mario 64 type shit here. It is THAT GOOD.

Damn, I wish there was more of that. And I didn't even try the 2 player mode yet. Most of these games allow other players to interact, while one person is in the VR mode. Gotta' try that later. Very Happy

Ah man, what a good time to be alive!

EDIT 2:

Goddamn this thing really fucks with my head though. I feel like real life is now VR with amazing life like graphics, I can't really describe it, I don't like it though... lol.

Thanks for the impressions sTo0z!

Im glad to hear the stuff you read on Kotaku was primarily irrelevant and the VR experience was a good one aside from feeling sick playing one of the games! That was one of my concerns also but I guess you could overcome it over time maybe.

Can you or someone with PSVR tell me what you think to the Resident Evil 7 Kitchen demo as currently the that is the only title I really want PSVR for!

Also what's the cinematic mode like, watching movies? And playing all other games on a virtual screen?

LOL

Got my PSVR today and tried the RE7 demo first. It's super short, like 2 or 3 minutes, takes quite a bit longer to install than play haha
But even though it's so short and barely interactive it shows the potential and it works well.
The scene is pretty scary and disturbing and conveys a good feeling of presence, especially when that thing looks at you in close-up. It feels quite unnerving

I just can't judge from that how good or even what exactly the final game will be. I'm intrigued though!
I read there'll be another demo update before the release so maybe we'll get to play some more actual normal gameplay then.

looking forward to trying london heist but I gotta charge those damn move controllers first.
hopefully they can still hold a charge after all these years Razz

I tried the kitchen demo too, but it's so short.... Was good though, the 3D and sense of immersion was great.

I really suggest you guys to try Until Dawn Rush of Blood and London Heist for immersion, these are a blast !

Did you guys try Hustle Kings VR ? Does it really look like you are playing snooker?

Yes it's visible. I'd say as a good comparison the cinema mode (to play old games in a big screen), games look like on PS3 as in 720p... not as crystal clear as proper 1080p (even though it should be 1080p).

You can see the pixels.

That being said, it's less noticeable in VR games because some are so immersive that you tend to forget about the graphical quality.

I noticed, even if I change settings etc, that far distance is usually quite blurry.

For some reason the only game I had almost crystal clear GFX (except a little aliasing) was Rez infinite, probably because the game has simple graphics...

Anyway if you expect the headset to have graphics as good as old PS4 games on TV (not even speaking about texture quality, i speak about aliasing and pixel density) then you'll be disappointed.

If you expect to have a PS3 "in your eyes", then you should be happy Smile

I suggest you try it before buying it, I knew I was a little disappointed about the overall quality AT FIRST, but then after playing 5min, I got used to it and loved it.

I don't think any headset, even the Vive in 4K, has quality as good as "playing from the couch" anyway.

The screen door effect is almost non noticeable though on PS VR, this I can attest. You forget about it easily in a few seconds.

PS : some games have better graphics than PS3 ones though Razz

Just unlocked the VR dlc in Rise of the tomb raider and i love it !

I know many people say it's a shitty experience but it's one of the most if not the most immersive experience I have tried.

There is a free mode where you can move with the ds4 and it gets me nauseous after 30 sec.

Then there is a comfort mode, you can teleport anywhere you want by aiming with thé ds4, it's really well done and no nausea.

Visiting the Croft manor for real is just insane ! You can even lean to see the rain at the window...

And graphics are better than PS3 in this game : it is aliased to death but not much downgraded to run at 60 fps.

Just bit the bullet and purchased Wayward Sky. Fuck yes, this feels amazing. It's like you are there overlooking a bunch of toys you're playing with. There's no way any videos can give you the experience that awaits you when you play the game with VR. It is just something completely amazing and new.

I love this.

Perfect.
