Universum: War Front is a sci-fi blend of multiple game styles for an innovative competitive experience. Manage your base, characters, and army in top-down strategy modes, and then switch into the action at any time as one of your characters, playing directly and seeing the battle through their eyes. Multiple game modes will include DoTA-style maps, deathmatch, survival, and more. Five levels of combat – space, air, ground, sea, and underground – add further dimensions of combat.

We are planning to release the game step-by-step. First we will release early access version of the game in minimum complete set on December 2014, after that in each updates we will add to it more assets and functions, if we reach appropriate goals here with your help.
We are a small, self-funded, independent game developer "StarworksArt Studio" leaded by Cyril Megem, who is both professional artist, game designer and programmer at this project, working hard to build the game of our dreams called "Universum: War Front". In fact all that you see now was done by one person in his apartment. But when we'll reach our financial goals, we will be able to hire others talented and experienced people to help us to release the game faster and better comparing to its current state.
So basically we are trying to develop high quality games independently from game publishing companies.
When you played MOBA or RTS, do you ever wished to come down and keep the enemy at gunpoint in dynamic battles? In Universum you can:
-Command your troops on high or come down and keep the enemy at gunpoint in dynamic battles.
- Fight in 5 dimensions: ground, air, underground, open space, underwater.
- Play infantry, vehicles, mechs or alien creatures.
- Customize your character and researching new technologies.
- Enjoy beautiful graphics, realistic physics and incredible visual effects. And all of this, on the beautiful landscapes of alien planets with their unique nature environment,
- physics and disasters, in the huge world of Universum.
And all of this, on the beautiful landscapes of alien planets with their unique nature environment, physics and disasters, in the huge world of Universum.
Much more? We have a plan to create a global map of the universe, with MMO elements, where your space troops will be able to resolve the dispute who will rule the Earth and the galaxy today tomorrow..
What distinguishes Universum from other ARTS/MOBA games?
- Switchable on fly Action/RTS control Develop your base, grow a strong army, send your troops into the enemy camp, but at any time come down, control your main characters directly and keep the enemy at gunpoint in dynamic battles with realistic physics and beautiful visual effects. See what you character sees! - Variety types of Maps and Units Several planets with their unique nature and variety of maps based on it. (Not only Dota-style maps! STORYLINE: INTERSTELLAR CRUSADE
This is a story about our possible future, and what could happen after the beginning of space expansion and after the first contact with aliens. We look forward and ask a question: "What would happen if mankind lost Earth and will they be able to capture their home planet back?" This game is about choosing a path for human evolution. Storyline of Universum based on the book written by our project lead, Cyril Megem, created with deep sense and narrative. In 2050 the global crisis of low resources came to an overpopulated Earth. Genetic modifications and implantation entered into the life of humanity. The need for colonization and resource extraction on distant planets became apparent to the United Government of Earth - "Terran Republics Aliance" (TRA). When the world's largest resource-processing corporation TerraKorp launched a planets-colonization project called"Universum" many volunteers and adventurers rushed to the most remote parts of the galaxy in search of the resource-rich planets.By 2075, most of the human population lived outside of Earth on distant planets, the government has difficulty controlling their colonies. On most of the colonial planets began insurrections and territorial wars. And then humanity first faced the greatest horror in the universe..Unknown till now alien civilization started to conquer terran planets one by one. People must unite in the fight against the enemy, but instead separatists and large corporations took advantage of the protracted conflict for their own purposes. This lasted until the humans lost most of their colonies, and there was a threat of destruction of the planet Earth. Most of Earth's citizens have been evacuated to nearby planets. Homeplanet was preparing a devastating invasion. Humans realized that they must unite in order to survive or they will disappear..
An amazing interstellar adventure waits! Be a republican guard, mercenary of corporations, bounty hunter, rebel or a warrior from alien civilization and find out who will rule the universe tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm skeptical. Multi-genre games often sound good on paper but usually suffer from poor to very poor implementation. Which is natural; divide your resources on multiple genres and you'll end up with versions of them that are less than optimal.
There have been a few exceptions however, so who knows. Something to keep an eye on.
Not really sure what to make of this.. Definitely looks good, although thye need to work on the pop-in, but the concept of controlling a unit first person in a RTS, while being attacked elsewhere?
And I can only imagine the balance issues...
Still, will keep an eye on this one.

i guess there's a system where you're a commander who can join the battle if needed and also who can command all units from somewhere else. I definitely liked what i saw.
“The game is in Early Access because it is playable but not currently feature-complete and not represent its full potential. I develop this indie project single-handed, with the involvement of the community. So, Early Access is a necessary step on the way to my ambitious goal - create together with players a new genre of the games that includes Action, RTS and RPG elements in one.”
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“The game will remain in early access development as long as it needs to reach its full potential.”
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“Finished version will contain much more content and some new interesting features suggested by community. My plans are ambitious, but since the development of WARSHIFT is a one-man operation, I encourage to be realistic in your expectations. Note, that this is a very experimental project, so that its conception could be unpredictably changed in the future.”
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“Currently, game is playable but still remain in development and has lot of unfinished stuff. This release is focused on single player missions and custom skirmishes against AI.
Whats included in this release:
- Switching between Action/RTS mode in battles
- Unique NODE-based system for strategy gameplay
- Evolving systems for customizable combat avatars
- Tactical management system for heavy battleship
- 16 types of units: 6 customizable combat avatars, 9 AI soldiers, 1 heavy-unit
- 7 types of buildings
- Dozens of weapons and upgrades
- Super-abilities and transformations
- 4 playable maps for custom skirmishes vs AI
- 5 types of physical environment: grounded, air, water, underwater, open space
- 10 single player missions
- Customizable skirmishes against AI
- Basic LAN multiplayer (for local area network)”
Incoming prolonged Early Access hell before eventual cancellation, then? It does sound and look good... very good in fact... but a single developer? For something this expansive and ambitious? Eghhhhh

Meridian: New World was done by one person too, and didn't turn out "that" bad.
Though Meridian was pretty simple to begin with.
I have serious doubts that this game here with its complexity will be bugfree or even leave EA indeed.
Enthoo Evolv ATX TG // Asus Prime x370 // Ryzen 1700 // Gainward GTX 1080 // 16GB DDR4-3200
And Rebel Galaxy is being done by only two people and still looks to be the greatest space game since X-BtF and Freelancer, so I absolutely understand team-size isn't *usually* an indicator of quality... BUT! something this ambitious? Seems hard to believe a single guy can pull it off. Still, looks good from the vids and I'll happily try the yarr release when it comes
THE AUTHOR'S MESSAGE
"I want to thank the game's community for all the feedback, suggestions and support they have given me during the Early Access period. Everyone who helped me make it as awesome as possible, I thank you very much!
I came up with idea of this game a long time ago. Once, I'm decided to stop just to dream, but to make it real. Being a professional artist, game designer and programmer, I spent 10 years of my life working for many game companies. Finally I decided to leave my last job, staying home like a hermit for a while, and focusing on my own game title. The game you see here is a result of my personal day to day hard work over a 4 years + 1 year in the Early Access. That was my personal challenge, but I'm pretty sure I can do even more with community’s help. Cheers, Cyril"
