There I thought jeeps were pretty bad and horsie was awesome, but now I saw the sidecar motorcycle and boy was it fast! Got to be my vehicle of choice (to death).
edit: did they do it, looks like the default assault trench gun now has recoil
Is it still possible to get the game for a lower price by using proxies/vpns? Or did EA fix all of them?
(I'd rather not buy a key from a gray site, in case I decide to ask for a refund)
Anybody playing with EA Access ? This game is what all games should be quality wise, technically and graphically. Really impressed!! Enjoy for the ones who are playing.
Others, get to it!! loll!!

Finally, Battlefield 1 is slowly rolling out, and I got my chance to play the first two missions, nay, war stories.
The first one is short and bittersweet. It is the 12-minute gameplay trailer we've already seen. So let's just skip right ahead to the second one.
Through Mud and Blood!
You begin as a new recruit who was assigned to a experiences tank crew and their Mark V tank "Black Bess" as its driver. You have never actually driven a tank in your life before, but who cares, right? All you have to do is push two levers anyway.
So let's get this going. The goal of your mission is to break through the German lines to reach the French town of Cambrai.
It all starts out well enough, as you make your way through enemy lines, to help your infantry advance through the battlefield.
It is a brutal battle for men and machines, and as you move on, you see the horrors of this "great war" left and right. Infantry soldiers of both sides are dying by the hundreds, while you move forward. Steadily, with your goal in sight.
On the way there, while clearing the enemy trenches of any foes and destroy the deadly German Krupp artillery, which has been decimating your fellow soldiers in the days, months and years before.
So far, the game plays pretty nice. You drive and shoot the main cannon of the Mark V tank, as you would in Multiplayer and there is no step by step introduction or anything. Sure, they eventually assign you a destroy order for the German artillery, but you go there as you like. No, follow me or other such nonsense. It feels like a Rush mode to be honest. And that's a good thing.
While pushing forward, you suddenly become cut off of your allies and use desperate measures, to survive. You end up all lost inside a strip of foggy forest and this time it is time to exit your new best friend and move onward on food, clearing the way for noble Bess.
You become a Tank Grenadier. And again your orders are very open. You can try the silent, stealthy approach or you can go out guns blazing. However, you like. There are no markers, no follow me this or that or do this or that crap. Just get the job done, soldier!
It also means a nice change of scene. At first, you drive through the horrors of trench warfare; destroyed landscape, barbed wire, mud and blood and countless bodies.
And now you are in a dark forest, filled with mud and fog.
It is a great change and adds to the atmosphere.
After a short while, you come out on the other side of the forest, and you have to fight your way through a bastion of German bunkers, tanks and infantry. And again, there are no waypoints, no markers or anything. Just a clear mission:
Destroy the enemy and let's get Bess moving!
After this encounter, Bess finally succumbs to her punishment received, at least at the moment, and it's again time for you to get out there and find parts for her in a nearby village.
It is also time for another change of scene. It is now night, and you are somewhere in the countryside, near a small village with windmills and a lot of Germans.
Now it is finally time to test your precision skills and take out the German occupation force in the village with a long range sniper rifle.
Or if you prefer, just go running at them with a shovel. I mean, seriously, you can ...
You have to find four parts for Bess, which are grossly marked on your minimap and then fight your way back to Bess. There is a horse at the furthest part, so might wanna take a ride on it back.
Time for the final part of the story, all you have to do, is make your way past a small village and you can finally connect with your allied forces again. But of course, it isn't as easy as that. You become quickly intertwined into a deadly standoff with a German garrison, including several tanks, guns and Anti-Tank Grenades.
But at least, this time, you get to use the tank again and damn is it fun!
Then you finally are through and off to better things.
My thoughts:
I am throughout impressed by what I've seen so far. The story is compelling, and it pulls you into the action.
Also, there is very little actual hand holding, which changes from the past, almost CoD like, gameplay. Also, there is no continuous respawning or checkpoints or anything. Just move on, get the job done, period.
The graphics are superb while running smooth as can. I played the game on Ultra with V-sync on, and the fps counter never changed from 60.
I am for the first time impatient to play the rest of the single-player missions in an MP oriented game for quite some time (I think the last one was COD 4 or something). Not since then was there an FPS, that had me wanting as much for both the singleplayer AND the multiplayer part.
It is a rare gift for a game to be able to achieve both and Kudos to Dice for having done so.
Also, I love that the HUD isn't cluttered to hell with symbols and what not. There is very little going on on the overlay. Enemies are only shown if you marked them with Q and there are very few other markers. It looks and feels very clean and slick, and honestly, it is a fucking joy to play it.
I am giving this game a 9.5 out of 10 with a possibility of a 9.9 out of 10 if they tweaked the Multiplayer properly since the Beta.
Am I the only one saddened that the custscenes are only a prerendered video file and not in game? They are still functional but I greatly appreciates ingame custscenes... too bad.
"If everything else fails , we can always count on Hitler doing his part!" (.can't remember)
Yeah the loading scenes are all cutscenes it seems, also have to play a certain bit before you can skip them although at least unlike the newest COD games it does not impact loading times to where the level only gets loaded after the movie has finished.
(Can be adjusted in Black Ops 3 though and I think Advanced Warfare too where it was first used due to user complaints?)
Had to take a break from the game, yesterday it played fine but today it's registering a controller and there's no in-game way (or console cvar, or hidden cvar via user.cfg) to toggle back to keyboard and since I don't actually own a controller having the player spinning in circles is impacting the gameplay a little bit.
(Even clearing out the config files didn't help so I'm a bit stuck at the moment and the game does not appear to like digging through it via various tools either to find cvars or other means to perhaps forcefully disable controller input or at least toggle between that and keyboard.)
(Also on PC if you use a gamepad you get aim-assistance, can be toggled on console but it's enforced on PC for some reason with the toggle option missing entirely.)
So, did EA fix every VPN/Proxy trick? There are no countries left where the price for BF1 is lower? (When bought directly from EA, not a third-party site)

For shits and giggles, I'll try it tomorrow when I get back home.
