lights out

the movie itself wasn't anything special in terms of story, BUT... BUT... that was one damn fine monster! The way it was used most of the time, even the 'cheap' scares, were damn effective to me... very chilling creature.

Ouija (2016)- 6/10 It was entertaining, but could have been better. Not really a lot of cheap scares, but enjoyed it overall.

Jesus christ, it's Jason Bourne - 5.5/10

It could have been the chance to gloriously bring back the Bourne as we know and love after the Legacy fiasco, instead they settled for a flat, uninspired and generic collage of deja-vu's and predictable set pieces. Shame on you Greengrass!

Just a few decent action scenes here and there, surrounded by an extremely simplistic plot, CSI enhance xD, improbable awesome button-based hacking, way too many coincidences even for the Jmen and constantly annoying shaky camera to make it look more authentic.

Jason Bourne(2016)

5/10

Jeez...boring and badly written.. And I absolutely hated the little details like these:

- usb stick with secret info.. Let's put ENCRYPTED on it ,large font.
- Bourne psych evaluation.. Let's make its key elements bold, centered and quoted which looks ridiculous. It's not a fucking article.
- There is a phone in teh room! I can use it to delete the files! Files deleted! etcetc Laughing

Sausage Party - 6/10.

Enjoyable with good animation but I found the scene near the end a real wtf moment and that ending was dog shit.

BFG - 6/10

Not really sure what was wrong with this because the CG was fantastic and it was a faithful adaptation of the book but it just felt a little dull and didn't feel like it showed a big enough threat from the other giants to make the ending have any urgency.

Finding Dory - 7.5/10

Good sequel to a great original.

Finding Dory 5/10
With South Park's last season, I'm seeing interpretations of 'memberberries everywhere... Finding Dory was one giant 'memberberry. 'member the whales? And the turtles? Ooh, and 'member the seagulls?
I thought it really sucked... Neutral

The Handmaiden 6.5/10
Nice story, typical Park in that nothing is how it appears. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, not sure what will come next.
Not as good as his classic Vengeance Trilogy, but intriguing throughout. And lesbians.

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.

Mediocre movie which stumbles to explain it's time travel properly.

ST-Beyond 6/10

A spectacular thrillride, that could not have been shallower. Pacing was all over the place, the villain motivation was a big pile of 'meh', McGuffins uppon piles of McGuffins...but at least it was pretty. Wish they would start giving the characters some depth already. They keep acting like they are a big happy crew with history behind them, but since we didn't see them grow closer, I just cannot care.

I wish they'd use something more familiar as a threat in the next movie. The franchise is FULL of amazing enemies to the federation (klingons, romulans, borg, cardassians, dominion, breen, gorn, etc). Yet what did we see since the reboot?
 Spoiler:

As shallow as these reboot movies are, I'd love to see them tackle the borg, giving them that reboot-facelift.

they should just bring back khan. i want more khan. hes the only really solid villain the franchise has had so far. Khan and his crew out for revenge against the enterprise... that'd be so neat.

Hell or High Water 6.5/10

Decent flick, but I don't get the excessive praise. Personally, I found Bridges slightly over-the-top in terms of his laid-back style - and everything else was more or less completely cliché, if well executed.

The Accountant 8/10 but it's probably like Sicario - you either like it or hate it.
This one surprised me. I really liked Affleck in this. The humor was nice and the twist was played well (not that it was that unexpected).

so good! gave me chills. it started off super strong, but i was a little unsure of it about.. a third of the way through, but it picked up wonderfully and overall i thought it was an amazing film... a fantastic story... and that ending...

also charlize theron did such a fucking amazing.. AMAZING job in this... seriously, she packed so much into her effort, her voice work was phenomenal...

The Danish Girl - 7/10

As good as the performances were (particularly Vikander's), there just wasn't much happening for like half of the movie.

the secret life of pets - you know what? actually BETTER than i expected.

im happy to admit that pixar films do seem to carry a weight that even i cant ignore, and its the reason i think i liked finding dory more than i feel it had any right to be... if finding dory hadn't been a pixar film, as in it wouldnt have had the 'brand' attached to it, i wouldnt have enjoyed it as much, and id have easily ranked secret life of pets above it... but i cant deny the pixar brand seems to make a film feel less cheap when compared to a 'slightly better' animated feature...

its weird... dory wasnt that great, id rate it at the cars level of pixar films (OK but in the bottom third of pixar films)... where as life of pets is almost everything i wish for from an OK animated film.. laughs, action, fun characters, and NO FUCKING MUSICAL NUMBER AT THE END.. yet it lacked the magic that makes it something memorable.

im rambling, sorry... also drinking, but its ok.

ALSO... rewatched kubo for like.. the third time...

STILL amazing, and the fact im seeing a little something new each time, and am loving the characters more and more, am still spellbound by the visuals, and am still thrilled by the film and dont find any bits boring and dumb... its seriously in danger of being my movie of the year, i think... its the kind of film id been desperately hoping all year that 2016 would deliver... and boy was i starting to lose hope.
