~ 1 hour 30 minutes here, I could. Razz
(Preloading - Which took about a hour. - makes it faster with the whole VPN thing though rather than fiddling around getting Steam to download the files directly but not via the VPN as that would take years. )

EDIT: At least this gives me some time to set up S and M ( http://blog.gib.me/ ) and unlock those and never have to bother with that again. Very Happy

EDIT: Hey it dropped to 50 minutes, maybe the Steam update actually works.
(Or not, probably just Win10 getting done with compattel.exe scanning through it wondering wtf is this? and thus freeing up HDD usage for the actual unpacking, heh.)

Load tomes to get into the game are abysmal. Hopefully that's just for the first time.

Runs well maxed out at least / 1440p

Yeah that's IDTech I take it, DOOM takes forever to start up for some reason (And it's using a newer engine too.) although level load times are at least a bit better than with Rage or the Wolfestein and Evil Within games. Very Happy
(Well it took forever to start up but then I completed it and uninstalled the game since all the announced post-release content is MP focused, not a bad idea to try and build a MP foundation for a game though but I'm not sure if some extra levels after several months and maybe some weapon or customization parts will do heh.)

EDIT: And yeah a SSD certainly helps but if the game is loading tons of smaller content files it can't keep up to optimal speed (I'm not exactly sure as to why.) and even newer models see a performance decrease.

Also even at 2560x1440 a 1080 ought to have enough power to handle almost any game currently out if driver support is up to speed and the developers actually did their job. Razz

Not sure if it's using Megatexture but if it does then moving around is constantly loading and unloading data although 8 GB of VRAM should be enough but that depends on how the game handles streaming I suppose.

VSync I'm not 100% sure on at all, fast-sync and g or free sync variants and then double or triple buffered and double vsync (Running at half your refresh rate.) I personally just disable it as I rarely notice tearing myself but for those who do that must be a real hassle when the game isn't handling it as you'd expect.

There is an adaptive resolution slider, it goes from 50 to 100 and by default it's on 75. So that might explain why the shots look muddy, but it does not bode well for the performance.

Also, did they completely change the engine since D1?

That was a modified UE3, this is a extensively modified IDTech5 (Rage) that they're calling Void Engine. (Runs on DirectX 11 for one thing instead of via OpenGL and I don't think it's using MegaTexture either.)

NeoGaf PC performance thread.

70 - 100 frames nice, oh it's on a 1080 GPU, also using default adaptive resolution scaling of 70% so it's cutting 30% of the screen res as needed.

(And the guy below that post has 120 FPS also ni..oh that's a Titan X Pascal. )

@garus

That's a CD retail key. It was much cheaper than buying directly on steam. The difference is unlike buying on steam cd retail keys seem to be fully region locked(activation AND playing).

@Drowning_witch

1300(retail key) vs 1999(steam)

AMD shitstorm again. The game is barely playable for me. It doesn't even seem to matter if I use very low or ultra settings, fps drops to ~15, most notably in some open areas but also in the throne room at the beginning.

RX 480 Nitro+ 4GB
i5-4690k @ 4.3GHz
16GB RAM 1600MHz
SSD

And I can't play it even on the lowest settings @ 1080p?

It's not just AMD though.

Quote:
Karnaca dips to the lows 40, the game wildly fluctuates in the weirdest of scenes, but open areas are the ones that take massive fps drops i7 2700k oc to 4.5, 1070, 32 gb of RAM 1080p.
Stopped playing at 100 minutes will probably refund it(thank god for steam) until it gets patched or wait for a sale.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised.. It's a tradition now.. Properly optimized games are a rare exception Laughing

Keep in mind the day 1 patch probably hasn't dropped yet since the game isn't out worldwide. Performance might improve after it does. That said, it was still a shitty move to release the game in such a poorly optimized state. Sadly, us PC users are second class citizens when it comes to gaming now.

Meh, can't be bothered looking for a VPN, and playing for 1-2h before bed.

Will just wait till tomorrow and enjoy it in it's glory with the day1 update and the new Geforce drivers.

Bye.
