This makes no sense. You have people in this forum whinging constantly about hand holding, and when a game doesn't do that and just says "What did you do. . ." folks start going "Oh no! What do these choices mean!"
If I'm misunderstanding your complaint, I apologize, but the game isn't asking you to min-max anything there, just asking you to choose your own adventure (and letting you clearly know that choices matter).
I grabbed this for 30 bucks and I am enjoying the hell out of it (combat bullshit aside; I can't believe they fixed everything but the non-responsiveness of combat). The story is FAR better than PoE (which was just too slow to keep me hooked). The intro to this is immediate as well as having some pretty interesting and well defined characters (I laughed at the two factions being Red and Blue; a bit on the nose for Americans).

and made a certain someone my vassal
and the thing is, but i still need to check, is that it's something that you don't normally get in a quest? or at least the questlines i'm at has it stated not to go do a thing until after i've done 2 other things, but i decided what the hell, i've stacked lore, i can do that thing first
dunno how it would have played out if i did the 2 other things first but it would be nice if it was different
but i like this path, all for myself, though i regret taking it because i might not want to play the other paths, being someone elses lackey

Can someone give a short explanation about the Wrath/Fear aspects?
I'm not sure what i should expect from having high Wrath rating with someone/some faction or Fear rating with companions?

Wow, I'd really like the version of the game all those reviewers were playing, cause apparently I got the terrible combat, tons of lore fluff of little consequence version of the game with boring characters. A lot of its issues would be excusable if the gameplay was any good, but its not.
The combat is slow and repetitive, the abilities and attacks feel weak with no meaty impact, your characters feel weak, especially the main character when you consider that he's not just some random asshole nr 26. Level ups lack impact, just slight upgrades and sidegrade abilities, items again feel dull just like in PoE. Wrath vs Favor seem more like a gimmick, especially since you can gain in both trees. The whole craft spell system is just the pinnacle of dullness and so on, this whole game just has a lot of small things in it but none actually good, they should have just focused on a couple of mechanics but make them interesting.
The first few companions are uninteresting, yet they have hundreds of lines of irrelevant fluff from the start, swamping you in uninteresting bullshit with no incentive to go through it. There is some good stuff in there, but most is dull bs filler just for the sake of writing.
Its a game of pretty pictures and mountains of text, some good and a lot of it being average written fluff, at least so far. I'm going to continue playing for a bit more to see if it improves, but so far I'm happy I didn't make the same mistake as with PoE to buy it on release.
