Strong initial box office performance. ($24 million actual vs $12-15 million the studio was expecting).
Quote: | The film received a "B" CinemaScore from opening day audiences and the weekend demographic breakdown was 52% male vs 48% female with 85% of the audience coming in over the age of 25. |

I imagine they're not interested in movies where the aliens don't blow anything up or anally probe someone.
#notmyaliens.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

I don't agree with you. I personally found the movie to be lacking, a deserved "B" in my opinion. I don't care for blowing stuff up, or inserting objects into places.

So is this a New "contact" movie or what? Wait a whole movie for something to Happen and then get disappointed?!

I watched it earlier and although it is interesting it just does not cut it for me as a great movie, I rate it average at best.

I wasn't referring to the score but rather the lack of interest from younger audiences.

You must have watched a different Contact.

My apologies, I misunderstood. I'll give it a 7/10.

He's wrong. This movie is NOTHING like No Mans Sky, it has nothing in common with it at all. I have no idea why anyone would pretend this is anything like it...
I'm not sure what I would compare it to. It's a first contact movie with a good story and it's well made. |
I think the comparison he was trying to create is between the hype (the high scores) and the disappointment after he watched it.

Yondaime wrote: | But even then I wouldn't agree. No Mans Sky delivered NOTHING of value, absolutely nothing. This movie at the very least delivered a solid sci-fi story if nothing else. |
The movie seemed lacking, it is for me another one of those movies that has a good story idea but very badly implemented, its short for the most part regarding what the lead is there for and surrounded by a mish mash of time wasting bullshit. Just another money grab with wasted opportunity.
Lets just say it would be much simpler to sum it up for people with...
Watch the trailers and they are the best parts, and you are done. How often have we seen that in movies made lately.

But most of them don't clarify the reasons either |
If that's what people mean then that's a very bad comparison to make.
No Man's Sky was hyped by its developers. The producers of Arrival didn't do such a thing.
Then, upon release No Man's Sky crashed and burned critically (61% metacritic). Arrival was loved by critics.

It was a great idea with a decent execution. I expected something brilliant after reading this thread, it turned out to be entertaining at best. The twist wasn't thought provoking or amazing either.
7/10

Started really, really good but then it was ruined with all the stupid B-movie-like crap and cliches.
Spoiler: |
- Russians? Chinese? Let's blow the fuck out of this a milion more advanced civilization, because we're Chinese.
- Some random soldiers: let's fucking blow these fucking aliens, man.
- "Herro, pls no bomb aliens because I know what your wifu said", "k"
- You learn to read some symbols and suddenly you don't time the way you used to...
I really liked the "twist" though. It was well thought out, along with why did the husband leave.
|
In the end I felt like I was watching some bad 90s apocalyptic movie
7/10 anyway, for the great and intriguing 60% of the movie

Haha yeah, he's a solid director and the reason why I'm not too afraid of BR's seqvival (..yet!). Watch Incendies too if you haven't already, it's perhaps my favourite one (prepare yourself to take the feeltrain).
Just checked the release date here out of curiosity, 19th January 2017
Postponed to grant a quality badabebupi dubbing, and they're surprised that young people don't go to the cinema anymore xD

IMDb is full of haters as usual.
Saw it, felt cringe through a handful of moments like Spoiler: | hawkeye telling her that she was the best thing he found there and the "let's make a doomed baby" last sentence |
and finally, after leaving the cinema, being totally haunted by it.
Max Richter man...
Aftertought: 8/10, villeneuve delivers.

Hope so, as the ones on my Kodi box are terrible ATM. Like sitting in the cinema pissed out my head, and I've lost an eye. VR never makes me this sick.
