Did some testing. well, they improved GPU performance. on max settings, I gained 10-20 fps on average.
I went from 30-45 on max to 45-60. However, the CPU problem is still there. at all low, I still get constant 100% cpu usage and occasional drops to 55 fps.
But the max settings are a lot more smooth, basically almost constantly above 50 fps on a single 970@1920x1200. check out before after.
Does anyone know if reloaded patch releases are compatible with codex release ? Cause it seems codex stopped giving a fuck
you gonna need to read up the last few or so pages on rin, as they explain upgrade paths from every possible version there, it's just not something I could tell you without doing the reading myself
ok seriously, im playing the game like 7 8 hours in, is this endless grindfest continues to the very end of the game? do 30k damage > killsome1, repeat? i mean the first 2 hours of the game were great but later on it really sucks.
Yeah it might not be quite Euphoria of GTA IV / V (And few other games ever due to costs?) but I do like how the characters react to being hit even if the AI isn't exactly the greatest.
The game got a 2nd discount in stores here today, it's dropped more than half its price since launch
I have to say, been playing it for the past few days, with a peasant hat on, and the game grew on me. I figured out how to get the scripthook running, and installed the minimal hud mod, which disables the minimap and some other elements.
I say peasant hat, because I had to cap the game to 41fps in NV inspector. Anything above, and my CPU chokes and causes frame skipping during driving. this allows the game to avoid the CPU limit with higher FPS, but also allows me to max out settings, because in the most demanding areas at max settings, my gt970 does just about 41 fps. Win win No drops, no stuttering.
Driving is fantastic. this is especially apparent after playing watch dogs 2. mafia just destroys it in the car department. the weight of the cars, sliding, drifting, force feedback. it's a joy to drive.
the weapon feel, the ragdolls, and the sounds as well, are quite amazing. rarely does a shotgun feel this powerful. a single bullet will kill any enemy, send him backwards belly in, legs and arms out. it looks fantastic and feels great. even the silenced pistol, you really feel that headshot turn the head into a melon. great combo of sound, graphics and physics.
The game is a sort of, far cry 3 meets gta, gameplay wise. most of the mission content seems generic, and is generic in it's setup, but when you get down to the meat of the gameplay, it's really very similar to liberating an outpost in far cry 3 onward. you can sneak, you can fight, there are multiple approaches, etc. And the locations are just great and varied. You are free to make your own fun anyway you see fit. it's nowhere near as generic in execution as ass creed 1 side content, even though on paper, it looks quite similar.
the engine really looks great in many lighting conditions, with only a few being a hit and miss, mainly due to some washed out day light scenes, and oversaturated sun colors in some sunsets.
After the technical disaster of the game, I have to do a complete turn around, and say that the game is really great. I might even consider adding it to my legit collection once the price is in 10 dollar territory at Rajeesh.
I love how you can invite the ammo truck everywhere, get a car, etc. in gameplay fluidity it reminds me of saints row 2. everything is just a few button presses away, removing the tedium open world car games can sometimes fall into.
I am a bit biased probably because I love this time period. the lore and the pop references are plentiful. you hear npc's talking about that new ape movie that blows your mind, and if jim morrison can get through one concert without taking off his pants.
The racist redneck radio station is pure gold, always walking the line between absurdity and not sure if serious, just like real racism.
And the soundtrack is hippie stoner heaven. not to mention the jazz bars and record stores, where you can hear whole tunes, and amazing jazz tunes at that, for those into jazz, that don't air on the in game radios, adding further to the game's authenticity.
Really a shame the technical aspect gates of way too many people from this game.
nah, they deserved the refund at that price
but they will see some of my monies in the future.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I liked the setting a lot (city, music, etc.) and the brutality and racist overtones in the story were a welcome departure from the usual PG-13 stuff. The cars were surprisingly fun to drive on the realistic setting (though there's little to no damage modeling except the tires), while the weapons felt a lot better than I expected from a third-person shooter. I do wish there was a first-person mode (like in GTA V with all the weapons and car interiors) and that most of the missions were much less generic than they are.
But, still, I finished it unlike the GTA V which had mostly boring characters (Trevor was acceptable) and I couldn't stomach the Sims/Second Life approach where I couldn't easily skip that crap to go straight to the next story mission.

Finally completed it. Have to agree with all you said there. the story blows GTA 5 out of the water. And the content here is for big boys, nothing was toned down, no attention paid to any possible "i'm offended" outcries.
To shortly sum it up.
Pros:
amazing soundtrack, beautiful city, great car driving model, awesome gun feel and ragdolls, and superb story/cutscenes and voice acting. some mods do exist (I recommend the minimal hud mod, manual transmission, and hardcore difficulty mod which makes you die as fast as you can kill). multiple approaches to everything, and a choice of stealth or combat at any given time. a lot of content.
Cons:
the most demanding game out there, no way to customize the HUD without mods, content is very repetitive in it's presentation, especially because of the invasive HUD that removes even a slight hint of exploration (mods can help here), and the AI is really bad at times, often shooting at the last place where they saw you forever. you could literally go grab a coffee and when you come back, an enemy will be shooting at the last place you were spotted. Occasional scripting bugs, like side quests being activated even though they aren't yet unlocked, physics glitches that will require a checkpoint restart occasionally, like cars and boats randomly exploding for no reason, or flying in the sky in 1950's ufo motions, characters walking inside walls. these last few are really rare though.
But in the end, for me, a worthy addition to the franchise. Special nod to the CIA guy, Donovan. One of the coolest characters in games since Heytham Kenway. The priest and Sal Marcano were also terrificly mocaped and voice acted as well.
The highlight missions for me were
Spoiler:
the titanic reenactment in the bayou, KKK gathering massacre (I tossed a molotov into a 2 dozen KKK crowd, soooo satisfying), and LSD spiking a funeral of a rich, racist southern conservative
I couldn't stand the game anymore halfway through so finished it by watching "movie" on youtube. Good stuff. I wish the game was 8-10 hours but paced better and with better content.
Father James speech about JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. was really touching. That was such a high quality writing and voice acting wasted in a mediocre game...
