 Spoiler:

Oh, im kinda confused about the 8gb 1.02 patch that dropped today, cuz the 1.01 definitely had some of the features advertised in the patchnotes already in.

EDIT: ah, 1.02 added out of combat warping, sharing pics to Facebook and a skilltree for the WAIT mode. The rest was added in 1.01 already. My 1.01 save works without problems.

@headshot gz! im 25hrs in and im loving it. The world is gorgeous, esp. later on when you're cruising over giant bridges and high roads with a kickass view of the territory. My main concern now is that i dont want it to end. Gotta pace myself a little and concentrate on sidestuff. I'm chapter 8 now.

Yep, 1.02 also added plenty new camera options, for example behaviour in close quarters and camera tracking speed for lock-on, which i really wished for Very Happy

23 hrs in right now, having alot of fun, chapter 9, its a really great one!

Current metascore sitting at 86, that is really better than expected Smile

The only thing I didn't like so far is the Regalia can't go off road lol. Also I read you can listen to music whilst on foot? Not sure how though. I spent far too long playing Justice Monsters Five lol.

Not bad reviews but this still be $25 by Christmas, hence why I cancelled my deluxe edition. Fuck buying games on release date.

Just finished the story Very Happy.
Although the game had obvious traces of development hell here and there (especially some pretty ridiculous and baffling design choices in 1 or 2 of the later chapters), overall they somehow managed to pull it off and created the best Final Fantasy game in 12 years, and the ending was beautiful, one of the series' best.
I can't believe it, but FF is back, and I'm off to finish all the sidequests Very Happy (which you can still go back to after finishing the game, so no worries about a point of no return).

edit: perfect timing headshot, I was just about to check how to get the flying car Laughing

That was better than perfect timing lol.

Gonna take me a while to finish this game especially as I am trying to do as many sidequests as possible before the story lol.

Usually I also take my time with the sidequests first, but seeing how I constantly get video recommendations on youtube with spoilery thumbnails, I wanted to see the story through before I get spoiled, now I can do all the other content in peace Very Happy.

Ah fair enough. I did read in the Kotaku tips article that there are some side quests that meant to be finished after the story ...

Quote:
Don’t worry about doing every sidequest

Even after you get out of the open world and into the more linear portions of Final Fantasy XV, you can go back any time. You can also revisit the open world once you’ve completed the game, so don’t stress out if you’ve left sidequests unfinished or dungeons unexplored. Many hunts and quests are designed to be finished once you’ve beaten the game, anyway. You also won’t miss much if you skip the ones that seem really boring.

Played for 3 hours so far. It's a weird one, alright. Very uneven game.

The main cast is pretty great, I'm actually enjoying their banter a lot more than I thought I would. But the rest of the NPC's, oh boy, the writing is really bad at times.

The world itself is rather interesting, and I like some design decisions. Like making you camp and/or use motels to sleep during nights - and making nights different than days using more than just the absence of sun - it's not necesarry, but the game seems designed with that in mind, which is kinda refreshing. On the other hand, the side activities seem to be very repetitive and not exactly top-notch content. Maybe it'll get better as the game goes on, but so far it kinda reminds me of... DA: Inqusition. Which is to say, not very good.

Combat seems too simple at first, but turns out to be more complex as you start learning the ropes. And it works, in the end, I'm having fun with the fights.

Graphics look nice, as long as you look at something closeby. Character models and animations are very good, but the scenery suffers from lack of anistropic filtering and very poorly done foliage. It's not a bad looking game, but I kinda expected more in this regard. Frame skipping is really severe too, which is a shame, because it makes the High mode on Pro pretty much unplayable for me (it has better AF, among other things, and supposedly keeps a stable 30 - aside from frame skipping issues - so I might've used it). Thankfully, Lite runs like a charm, so there's that at least.

Also, the game is pretty bad at presenting it's story. It's not even the tale itself, just the way it's being shown. Honestly, if I haven't seen Kingsglaive, a lot of the things that are happening might've seen pretty superficial and confusing to me. Important stuff isn't being shown, some things are written instead of being presented in a manner that fits the rest of the game. Weird.

It's certainly miles ahead of FFXIII, but not necesarilly up to the challenge of other games in the genre. It does remind me of FF games sometimes, though. And it does make you want to keep playing, which is a good sign Very Happy

The game is pretty uneven indeed, as I said before there are clear traces of development hell.
Overall it is a success though imo, since Square managed to give me back some of that unique FF feel that I didn't have in atleast 12 years, and managed to steer the franchise away from the XIII crap and back towards what atleast I feel FF should be.

Well this is what you get if you let the management design a game.
SE was absolutely floored by the reception of witcher 3 i think Jim Sterling was it who explained it best, they had mostly given up on big budget aaa games since the investments necessary didn't seem worth it at the start of this generation.
They needed something like it so they took this project they had lying around (versus xiii) and gave it to their most unremarkable director since he had no visions of his own he always did exactly what the management wanted, after a few failed attempts this is what we got.

Don't get me wrong - despite my criticism, all in all, I do think the game really isn't bad Smile Especially when you look at it from the perspective of last few FF's, but even on its own it's not a bad game. It's not groundbreaking in any way, but it's solid entertainment. I like the sense of adventure and scale. But I also think the game's starting hours aren't very well designed. Areas, characters, pacing - it all leaves something to be desired. The more you play, the better the game gets.

It's just another average AAA game, maybe FF used to be something special but that's long past it's the same as every other AAA shovelware now.
Not bad entertainment but nothing more, just like the latest Hollywood blockbusters you watch them and have some fun but it's not something you will think about a week later.
