@CaptnNemo Same as always with pre-unlocking games on Steam, you start up a standalone VPN, log into Steam, unlock the game, play the game, turn the VPN off. I doubt it works for Uplay, as everyone that got in early was on Steam, but it should be unlocking in a few hours on midnight.

---------------

The game itself is pretty fun, holy shit I love the possibilities to fuck around with the people in the game, I used the drive hack to crash a bike into a truck and he flew high up in the air Laughing Or I made the police arrest some guards in a closed off area, then it escalated and a dog bit the police guys, shootings and else.

In between some guy wanted to kill me inside the clothing store, I stun gunned him twice and he got #rekt. Also found another who I knew by name from reddit who got a press copy, hacked him and hid right in front of his nose Mr. Green Starting to get the Quadcopter now, should be fun.

You need a GTX1080 to get a steady 60fps in 1080p, great job Ubisoft!

It looks like it's yet another successful product of ubilol-nderpia collaboration Laughing

PS Both nvidia and amd have released new drivers for wd2.. but I doubt it will make much difference compared to these benchmarks.

Fortunately, Watch Dogs 2 runs incredibly well. Not quite flawlessly unless I drop the graphics more than I really want to, but well enough that I don’t actually have any complaints.

On the detected settings my i7-3820/16 GB RAM/GeForce GTX 970 was managing a comfortable 58-60 FPS, and while FRAPS told me it was dropping down to the high 40s on rare occasions, I can happily say I didn’t really notice it. Lowering the settings a little raised this further, capping me out at 60 most of the time with occasional drops to about 54 when things got really busy. And, thankfully, dropping the details to Low gave me a constant 60.

Is that the current definition of "running incredibly well", struggling to get 60fps in 1080p unless dropping to the lowest quality setting with a GTX970?

Only a few hours in and I'm already in love with the game, there's so much attention to detail in it Very Happy Sometimes it gives a feel like sort of being "handcrafted". Definitely much better game than the first one. It's no GTA but it certainly is on the right track if they keep the pace improving on the formula.

Oh, and gotta love the derps complaining on the steam forums because "too many buttons" and "better keep things simple like in the first game" Laughing

yet the game also looks worse than W_D1...

Except it doesn't. In fact it looks a lot better, especially aesthetically. But I guess it's possible the game doesn't scale up well with the more powerful hardware, no way for me to know. I recommend to anyone (no matter nvidia or amd) to read the geforce guide, though. Really good tips that made me gain over 30% fps without sacrificing much visual quality.

I knew they were gonna shoot themselves in the foot for allowing settings beyond the ultra preset.

I already see people on steam forums crying, I can't max out wd 2 on gtx1070. but the guy plays at 1440 p with 8xMSAA Laughing allowing nubs to add MSAA in a dx11 title alone is suicide. not to mention that extra details slider that is at 0 even on ultra, but obviously, everyone will want it at 100% and choke their CPU.

You never let people go beyond the max in game preset. so many games made that mistake. Laughing

just a page or so back you can see a 970 does fine in this game at quite high settings.

extra details slider

What's that? If you are talking about Pixel density then it's the same shit as dynamic resolution. It should be set to 1 to render stuff at your native resolution.

Anyways, if it's just extra details a sin details and not resolution scaling then we still should be able to maintain 60 fps on 1070\1080 @1080p all things considered.

@h0rnyfavn This is a separate slider from Pixel Density, it's for incrementally increasing geometry level of detail for both near and distant objects.

nah, there is a setting called extra details. it's set to 0 even on ultra preset. It's very cpu an GPU hungry, and requires pixel hunting to even notice.

http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/watch-dogs-2-graphics-and-performance-guide#watch-dogs-2-extra-details

I dunno why they even included it if it murders FPS. same for txaa8x and msaa8x. exposing those settings to the end user was foolish on their part considering the performance of those settings at current GPU's.

I see.

Btw Gamegpu tested the game on Ultra preset, not "beyond the ultra preset. ". Performance is still poor. They are using reference cards, mind you.

I'm sorry but this is shit considering how the game looks. GTAV runs miles better.

yeah, it's no gta V/battlefield 1 when it comes to visuals vs performance ratio, but I see no reason to complain about a game with so many settings to tweak, and one that scales down with settings so well.

it's quite rare these days. If i had one complaint it would be that it's missing pedestrian and traffic density sliders.

If you can set texture resolution from high to ultra it's enabled. Smile
(Difference is pretty small though but that's how you activate it, texture quality further down is for anisotropic filtering where ultra equals 16x)

No not really, even without it it's pretty easy to exceed 4 GB or even 5 GB actually so I wouldn't recommend it but you can still download it even if you don't enable the setting for it. Smile

Again though the difference isn't going to be anything huge as the textures are already fairly detailed. ->
http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/watch-dogs-2-graphics-and-performance-guide

Ultra ("DLC") versus high.
http://images.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/comparisons/watch-dogs-2/watch-dogs-2-texture-resolution-interactive-comparison-001-ultra-vs-high.html

Normal (depth) and specular (shine/reflection) is what sees the most immediate improvement but even then it's not that easy to see. (Specular map would be the door frame reflection effects for one example even if it's partially a cube-map local reflection. - less blocky/pixelated, smoother - and the normal map for depth would be IE the wall plaster cracks and the like being more defined/sharper whereas for color/diffuse texture details like the decals and such it's very hard to spot any immediate improvements.)

(For comparison High vs Medium is pretty visible. -> http://images.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/comparisons/watch-dogs-2/watch-dogs-2-texture-resolution-interactive-comparison-001-high-vs-medium.html )

EDIT: Looks like I somehow managed to squeeze this in-between a double post and at the bottom of the page, well whoops. Very Happy
(Though perhaps this way I can finally find a answer to the question about if people actually do read the previous pages in a thread. Ha ha. )
