David Attenborough has been set to narrate the seven-part BBC documentary series “Blue Planet II” which explores the world’s oceans.
The first “Blue Planet” series was broadcast in 2001. The new series, previously known as “Ocean,” will be launched to international TV buyers at BBC Worldwide Showcase in Liverpool this week.
The series explores the latest frontiers of scientific discovery including methane volcanoes in the Gulf of Mexico, the ‘Boiling Sea’ phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean, exploring the Antarctic depths.
This world-exclusive introduction to the show is narrated by series presenter Sir David Attenborough and set to an exclusive track developed by Hans Zimmer and Radiohead. The prequel features an array of some of the most awe-inspiring shots and highlights from the new series, as well as several exclusive scenes that will not feature in any of the seven episodes which are set for UK broadcast on BBC One later this year.
Blue Planet 2 is just
The advanced camera work, lighting and techniques are absolutely impressive, it's not even a documentary about life in the seas, it takes the viewer and catapults him alongside the marine creatures, living and swimming with them.
The second episode about the unexplored depths really was a masterpiece. Unique, atmospheric, both relaxing and tense, with the fluorescent communication methods because of the pitch black, barren lunar-like sceneries, creepy fishes, hungry sixgill sharks fighting for the rotten whale's carcass who will feed the entire area for months, the spidercrab cleaning team with coral body armor, the underwater salt lakes that could easily be part of an Alien movie.
There's also a sense of sadness, coming from the fact that all our arrogance and indifference are taking all this beauty apart and damaging it to the point of no-recovery, which truly gets amplified by a show like this. *sad crab*
Now I'm still missing the 4 last episodes of Attenborough's Natural Curiosities Series 4
after 2 HDTV releases back in June it stopped then nobody bothered releasing the remaing episodes, the DVDs have been out for couple of months now and there is also streams on amazon
any of you guys see any releases of this?? maybe somebody on a private tracker bothered to rip them. There are no scene releases
@Shocktrooper which ones are you missing:
Part 1: Stretched to the Limit
David explores nature's evolutionary anomalies and examines two creatures whose stretched features have given them an edge in the natural world. The chameleon has an extra-long tongue that helps it catch prey and the giraffe's neck is so long it is easily able to reach the tops of trees for food.
Part 2: A Curious Hoax
David Attenborough highlights the curiosities that have led to accusations of forgery, but have ultimately helped assist the rethinking of evolution. When early explorers brought the first specimen of a duck-billed platypus to England in 1799, it was considered so bizarre it was deemed a hoax. Similarly, the midwife toad became the centre of a scientific storm in the 1920s that led to accusations of fakery.
Part 3: Young Wrinklies
David Attenborough encounters two species with wrinkly skin, where nature has tinkered with the aging process to different effect. The mole rat retains its looks while growing old and the elephant looks old from birth. Both creatures live relatively long lives.
Part 4: A Curious Twist
The single spiral tusk of the narwhal inspiration for tales of unicorns and the myriad variations on the twist of the snail shell have delighted and fascinated naturalists and artists since the dawn of civilization
Part 5: Seeing the Pattern
Zebra stripes vary subtly between the different species but there is one group of animals that has evolved colourful patterns of seemingly infinite variety, the butterflies. In this episode David looks at two examples of animal patterns that have bedazzled and baffled science for a long time, and uses modern tools to unlock their secrets.
Missing these (there are a few mislabeled releases floating around)
S04 E03 - Extreme Babies
Attenborough examines two species with unusual offspring: the giant panda, whose infants are the smallest of any mammal, and the kiwi, a bird that lays one of the biggest eggs.
S04 E04 - Curious Counters
Attenborough considers two species that appear to be able to count: a German horse callled Hans and a variety of bamboo that flowers at exactly the same time anywhere it is in the world.
S04 E05 - Incredible Shells
Attenborough examines two types of hard shell that have evolved in nature: the shell of the tortoise and the shell of ostrich eggs.
S04 E06 - Ferocious Fighters
Attenborough looks at two species that are naturally aggressive fighters: the Siamese Fighting Fish and kangaroos.
World renowned naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough will present Dynasty, a brand new five-part landmark series from the multi-award winning BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit, co-produced with BBC America and France Télévisions, to air later this year on BBC One.
Each episode of Dynasty follows individual animals - lions, hunting dogs, chimpanzees, tigers, and emperor penguins - at the most critical period in their lives. Each is a ruler - a leader of their family, their troop, their pride - each determined to hold on to power and protect their family, their territory and their dynasty.
The odds are stacked against them - our planet is changing at an extraordinary rate and the habitats these animals live in are under increasing pressure, not least from the impact of humanity itself.
Fantastic news. I wish David Attenborough and Brian Cox would do a special together. That would be amazing. I know Attenborough and Cox have talked together about Cox taking the reins once he's no longer with us. I think that's a great idea but lets face it, Attenborough will outlive God so we've got him for many years to come
