PS It has a better quality than the one on the gameinformer site |
Not impressed with this game, mediocre graphics and gameplay does not seem so fun.

I think it looks pretty fantastic. I stopped watching the video as I prefer not to be spoiled when I sense a great game coming around.
Then again, I'm a pretty massive fan of System Shock, so....

It doesn't look impressive or anything tbh.. considering the engine it's built on..Why take CryEngine and not use it to its full potential?
PS I bet it will have dynamic resolution crap

Yeah Bethesda scrapped Human Head (And their version of the game.) and had Arkane reboot it so now we have this instead.
EDIT: Possibly from a unsuccessful bid from Bethesda or Zenimax to acquire Human Head directly but I don't remember the full details if there's even some official info available that isn't NDA classed or how it's called.

recycling bin | Building block for the next bethesda "most unlikely unrelated franchise to pull out of their ass" game
Because from what I remember the original prey had few similarities with the SS games besides first person and "you are in space", right?

Correct. The rumor is they forced Arkane into being bought by them; they rejected some milestones of Arkane's for arbitrary reasons, no milestone -> no paycheck for Arkane; Arkane panicked about how they would manage to pay their employees; Zenimax suggested they give them loans; after Arkane took the loans Zenimax told them they have doubts Arkane can finish Dishonored and would like to get paid back the loans, something impossible; or just get bought out by them for little money, which is what happened.
They tried the exact same thing with Human Head by telling them "oh looks like you missed those milestones, no paycheck for you, what do you think about being bought out?"; HH refused; Zenimax announced "the game wasn't up to our quality standards" and cancelled it.

Yeah the entertainment industry whether movies, music or gaming isn't all that friendly and there's probably even more going on than what we end-user consumers ever get any information on at all.

It's a hypocritical mess with ass kissing in front of the cameras and stabbing behind them. Sadly, we don't often get much of the truth, if any, because journalists are too busy posting advertising articles.

Feels like a new Bioshock game rather than a SS homage. I think it looks good enough except for the enemies...not very interesting to fight a bunch of black blobs.

It was definitely a unique game, and also a relatively successful one in terms of sales.
Its biggest quality wasn't the shooting itself (although it was still fairly competent) or the amount of challenge (pretty low, with the questionable respawning system), but the atmospheric level design and how the good ol' idech 4 was cleverly altered to introduce portals, gravity-shifting puzzles, along with all the bizarre stuff that you can find inside a giant alien spaceship covered by slimy textures (...with the iconic anus-looking doors!)
It's actually aged pretty well, this is how it looks like with the trusty Sikkmod (the Lite version): http://imgur.com/a/6BVfd?
The original game doesn't really have anything to share with the current project, and keeping the name doesn't make much sense, but marketing works in mysterious ways. Despite all the historical odyssey, the new combo System Mug + Arkane intrigues me, in the same way their choice of engine terrifies me (for the obvious reasons). *fingers crossed*

Prey was first announced in 1995 by 3D Realms and went through many MANY design changes. It looked completely revolutionary at the time - graphics that surpassed Quake with ease - yet it was stuck in development hell so 3D Realms started having to catch up to the competition despite their tech being initially very advanced. It took over 10 years for a game to appear which was completely different from what it looked like for the first several years. So yeah, it was a big deal - while the game it ended up being wasn't all that special (it was still pretty good though), it was mostly its history and the years of anticipation that anchored its name in the minds of millions of gamers.

Why not follow up on the originals success though, give us a shooter with portals, gravity shift puzzles from memory you were fighting half cyborg aliens. It was a cool universe the ending was great, and they could have taken it anywhere..
As expected this game looks shit.
