I also think they nailed a lot of stuff. It really is how I imagined FF will evolve before the XIII fiasco - or even X onwards, since that, despite being a solid game, was when the corridor gameplay started.
It's also strangely addictive. I'm 23 hours in, I've played more than 13 hours during the weekend. I just wish the quality of side content and story presentation were better. And I could live without some of the annoyances. But still, it's a good game, it really is. Final Fantasy is back on the map
Wait until you start collecting differently colored frogs Not only is it repetitive, but aside from general location and the SOUND they make there's also no indication where the frogs are, especially with the briliant camera in this game. Irritating as fuck.
Honestly, the quality of side content is really bad. It's one of the major things that holds the game back.
50 hours in atm and its still alot of fun, don't see myself getting bored of it in a long time. Though I will probably be done with all the content in another 30 hours, this isnt W3 after all.
How can you tell exactly how many hours you've played?
All I'm getting bored of are the quests that are exactly the same that they literally put no effort into, like the blonde guy at the boat dock. The objective is always something like "go to the marked location", then you fetch whatever, then walk along that annoying jetty for the 11 billionth time to deliver it back to him. The same for dog tags, ingredients, animal collecting - probably something else I've missed. I just started hunting down wild chocobos, I assume these quests will go down the same path...
I fought a giant bird just now that was double my level, it felt good to finally beat it
The gametime is shown in most menus, for example map and touchpad menu, also in the savefiles below the date.
What I do for the hunts is leave my car at the quest giver, then ride a chocobo to the mark and after I'm done I just use the option "return to car" from the map, so I dont need to run back the same route again.
I really have a hard time seeing this as a JRPG, yeah don't give me this JRPGs are Japanese RPGs crap they are not it's a fucking genre, Dark Souls isn't a JRPG and this isn't either they are both western influenced action RPGs who happen to be made by Japanese.
The only thing which will happen if this becomes successful is that less traditional JRPGs are being made and more action RPGs, the same happened a few generations back with western RPGs and look what happened nowadays most of them are back to to being turn-based or rtwp, because pandering to people who doesn't even like RPGs never works out.
So is the ISO demo out yet? (I ask as this is a very lively discussion in the PC GAMES section...)
As far as we know there could be never a pc version or it could come out in a year or two or maybe allrdy next month, SE Japan are always unpredictable when it comes to their pc ports most just happen out of the blue when no one really expects them
– Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions and Chrono Trigger could be released on Steam before the end of 2017.
– Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XV are coming to PC, but likely not until early-mid 2018.
Funny how they still retain the censorship of the earlier installments for those re-releases, not that there's really all that much censored besides some slightly re-drawn monster sprites and those aren't anywhere near as risky these days.
Nice to finally hear something about 1 and 2 and of course also 12 for release on PC via Steam.
yeah that's SE for you, i doubt a lot of people still care about the game by then, anyway the first part is nice especially that ffxii remake could come so soon.

Dragon's Dogma came out in 2012, then onto Steam 4 years later, with a positive reception and over half a million sales for an unestablished series
If you think FFXV is going to do poorly after just ~1.5 years, you're kidding yourself
I care but I'm sceptic after XIII crap.

I'm putting my money on a PC release somewhere near end of 2017, early 2018. They will make it for the PC. 5+ million sales first day on consoles. It will go up and they'll want to leech that PC market. In addition they've stated multiple times they're looking into a PC release and they want to do it right.

well with their Season pass plans , i am kinda fine with that and would wait for full package anyway.... especially if we will get FFT, FF12 remaster and Chrono Trigger in the meantime But who knows hom much of it is true

They didn't sell 5 mill they just shipped them that's not the same they allrdy had to buy back a lot of unsold units back when type-0 came out and they overshipped it as well also the xbone version bombed.
It's funny they still think a late pc port is acceptable they loose hype and therefore customers also the customers expect a price cut and all dlcs included as well, on top of that the pc version was all they where showing off for months before they even had a working console version so we know they allrdy have it finished and just lying around no one is stupid enough to buy their bullshit about a super duper pc version.

Well a delayed PC version of GTA V worked out well, but I know that is GTA V
For what it's worth, there are very few games I hate more than the FFXIII series. I'm currently 74 hours into XV and besides a sometimes awful camera, the activate button being the same as jump and some other minor "issues", I'm having a blast.

Im a big Final Fantasy fanboy, but even i couldn't finish the FFXIII trilogy. I slogged thru the first two, but couldn't play more than 30min of the third one.
I forced myself through all 3 and even did all the annoying quests in the 3rd one while running against time constantly. Afterwards I hated myself. Fuck me.
Well the plains towards the end of the first XIII-logy with all the hunting related tasks weren't too fun either and XIII-2 had some side stuff too past, future and present though I don't know if it compares to fighting time instead of using/abusing it plus there's crap like making every monster go extinct and that dungeon during the final day plus different boss battle scenarios depending on current countdown progress and some other quirks.
Will be interesting to see what XII will be about once that comes out on PC, know next to nothing about it besides some of the bosses having a lot (lot) of health because "9999" wasn't enough damage so it's a bit more uncapped in that game.
(Forgot exactly how much but I think one of those "secret" bosses had a hit point total numbering in the millions.)
(EDIT: Oh yes. - http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Yiazmat_(Final_Fantasy_XII) )
(Guessing it's a bit too new yet but I wonder what XV has?)
(Or not, there's a couple. - https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/932981-final-fantasy-xv/74635877 )
I started enjoying FF13 by the time I hit chapter 11 and it became a bit more open. Never cared enough to do post-game stuff in the world though.
13-2 I actually finished and did lots of the optional stuff. Actually felt like I had a choice to go off the beaten path and visit other timelines, which I was happy to do.
13-3 though.. bought it, never even started it. Still don't know exactly why, I think it's the time-limit idea that I read about that's just really putting me off. I hate having to play a game several times to get everything, or keep playing after finishing it to get to do everything. Which is why in XV, I'm pushing myself to do as much of the sidemissions (blargh!) and side-dungeons (yay!) as possible before I go somewhere. Cause I know that if I finish the story, I may not start it up again and move on to other games.
Some stuff in XV is unlocked after the story though, you can still do all the sidequests and cant really miss anything plus you get some new content.
About FFXII JB, it is actually the best fitting FF game for pc. It basically plays like classic bioware games, complete with issuing commands during paused battle, also the anime influence is alot less than in FFX, which would resonate better with pc gamers.

Same, these realtime knockoffs are cute but we havnt had a real final fantasy game since ffx

Do you really see pc as a platform mostly for western games?
Seems like Microsofts shitbox propaganda is working after all... on some people...
I don't think there are far more pc gamers liking western games over eastern around the world compared to console only gamers.
There are probably more anime influenced games on pc then on anything else over the years/decade's, even if i ignore emulation (i don't it's one of the reasons pc and other open platforms are so fantastic compared to closed ones) pc is the ultimate machine for every kind of game eastern or western.
Japans douijin scene alone releases a few dozen every week.
If company's like SE want their eastern games to do better on PC all they have to is start actually giving a crap about the platform, good ports and marketing (so far they didn't even try) would be for example and ports that don't come out years later as well.
