After one Batyear and a half, most of which spent trying to extinguish the framerate cloudbursts and taming stuttering warner thugs, I finally finished the game. With finished intended as "finished", since there is no way I'll go for the 100% completion necessary for the proper ending (stopped at ~90%, already a record for me), a complete madness of derpsign, crazier than the Riddler himself.
As far as AAA multiconsole games go, with all their inner sins and excessive use of cinematic means, it was a great ride. I struggle at finding a position for it inside the franchise, but it definitely is a worthy sequel in my opinion. Solid narrative (with many ups and some downs, generated by a few surprises being not exactly mind-blowing - minus *that* certain recurring character..now that was brilliant ), improved combat, good flow overall, the Batmobile implementation which I liked despite the wonky physics, and pretty damn amazing visuals.
Now that the Early-Access-in-disguise curse was broken and the game actually runs well even on not-so-sexy systems, it's possible to notice the good artistic work that was poured into the game. With downsampling a and touch of Reshade, it's undoubtedly among the very best-looking titles available on PC, with a delightful representation of Gotham in terms of architecture, level of detail and illumination, along with the great models (and faces, which many games neglect).
As for the side contents, they were a bit too Ubisofty for me to be honest - except for the main Riddler ones, and sneaky panther heists - though thankfully they're not mandatory if we exclude the aforementioned more complete ending, and that's a good thing (once again, Mafia 3 shame on you ).
Speaking of Riddler races, hide yo records Sniffty and Werelds

(not actually a spoiler)
So yeah, even though the game lacks the cohesive structure and fascinating atmosphere of Asylum (for the obvious reasons of level design), it improves upon the freeroam-y formula and expands it in a pleasant way.
It's difficult to forget about that initial release really, so absolutely unratable (and unplayable), a shameful disaster that will be remembered for future generations of batmen. But as of now, trying to judge the game with no begrudges, I'd say it's a solid 8/10 batride in my batbook.

I found it to be a step up in cohesiveness from Arkham City, which (while being the right game at the right time) was a bit all over the place and barely managed to build a sense of urgency.

Indeed, I didn't want to make dangerous comparisons, but it was exactly the same for me as well. City had many great moment, though here you generally feel more immersed and less inclined to do "Bats things just for the sake of it", so to speak. Batman is a grown up bat, with much more responsibility.

I still need to finish all the DLC missions one of these days and as fun as the series was overall I am not sure how much I will like a Damian Wayne Robin game next if those rumors end up being true.

Rumored details of the next game from someone claiming to be a WB Montreal employee
Spoiler: |
Quote: |
Long story short: WB Montreal employee, well, soon-to-be-former-WB-employee. I was part of the team that worked on the failed Suicide Squad game before that got canned, then me and several others got moved to another team developing a new Batman: Arkham game instead. Since I'm probably not going to stay at WB for much longer, and since you guys are going to get the whole news on 8 March anyway, I figured I might as well leak it ahead of time so you guys have got something to look forward to.
1) The game is called Batman: Arkham Insurgency and it takes place about 3 years after the events of Arkham Origins. It's built on the same engine as Arkham Knight was and has been in development since around 2014.
2) The game will feature Batman and Dick Grayson as Robin as the main playable characters. Grayson has been Robin for about two years at this point.
2) It's set in a previously unexplored, coastal area of Gotham that is roughly the same size as the three islands from Arkham Knight on the outside, although the interiors have been substantially expanded so you will be able to get inside most of the buildings now. The Batcave and Wayne Manor are also accessible via fast travel.
3) The plot is that there has been a mass breakout at Blackgate and Arkham Asylum, and several terrorist attacks across the city, which results in the GCPD blocking off a segment of Gotham where they have completely lost control. This is the main playable area and while it's mostly populated by villains and criminals, there's a whole heap of trapped civilians that Batman and Robin will need to rescue.
4) The Batmobile is in the game, but it's been changed. There's no more battle mode but the controls have been modified to compensate. The combat mostly consists of chase sequences and using the Batmobile's superior speed and maneuverability to navigate around slower opponents while bombing the hell out of them with the car's weaponry. The missiles, power winch and the EMP device remain, along with some new stuff.
5) Dual play mode is also present, but it's been changed. The dual takedown has been removed but there's a whole bunch of new special moves and combos in its place. There's an entire new skill tree devoted to the mechanic.
6) Combat has been expanded to better accommodate 1-on-1 fights. It's still rhythm based where you have to time all the correct button presses exactly, but it's more complicated than the attack/counter basis of the previous games.
7) Owlman and the Court of Owls are the main villains of the game - although Owlman is really the main focus, especially when he murders all the other members of the Court towards the end of the game and starts targeting Batman's allies. It's revealed that the Court views Batman's heroics as a threat to their control, so they organize a criminal uprising to take him out. The Talons are also present as elite enemies who you never fight more than 3 at a time as just one character, or 4 to 5 as both characters.
Other villains in the game are Maxie Zeus, Dollmaker, Killer Moth, Anarky, Two-Face, Blockbuster, Ventriloquist, Cornelius Stirk, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Dusan al Ghul, Mad Monk, Dala, Riddler and yes, Joker. Joker figures somewhat prominently in the story (it's revealed that he helped orchestrate the Arkham Asylum breakout), but he's not the main villain but more of a major supporting character who mostly works for himself, but will sometimes help Batman and Robin if it benefits him.
9) Alfred and Lucius Fox are your main contacts in the game. Barbara Gordon helps you out on a few side missions and has a slight crush on Dick Grayson, which he doesn't reciprocate.
10) Unlike Arkham Knight, there will actually be boss battles this time.
11) The estimated release date is around November of this year, but it's possible that it could be pushed back seeing as the game was meant to be revealed towards the end of last year but was delayed.

i think id only be interested if they go back to the drawing board... like do what origins SHOULD have been if it wasn't a shitty cash-in game to make money while rocksteady were still doing AK...
set it at the start of him becoming batmans. Make his moveset less graceful and more brutal & raw.. give us less flashy tools, but make stealth (optionally) more expansive... that could be a game id be interested in seeing.
OR go the other way.. set it with batman being an old man a la the dark knight returns.. maybe even make him more bitter and maybe even wrestling with his decision never to kill people (i almost want to say.. maybe a moral choice system in the game? if handled well, could be very cool? we could see the fallout of his decisions not to kill, or see how it changes him and his allies if he does kill?)
either way, either of those directions id be really interested in (the second idea more than the first i think), but the game has to innovate in a significant way i feel.

So I bought this cheap, but then refunded because of a bug I'm having. Every other time I start this game, I get no text. As if the game doesn't manage to open some of its localization files. I quit, I run again, and it works. Same issue happens on the yarr version. It's a shame, because the game seems in good shape otherwise. Anyone hit this issue? My region in Windows is set to US.
