Really? so you would be happy to run your machine to max ram usage be it through apps or bad code/memory leakage which lets be honest happens more and more with devs of late and have no page file to save your work or ass. Very Happy

You should always have "some" page file assigned for the just in case times. Otherwise yes having more ram negates page file use. But always have a little, as if u crash from like I said you are going to crash HARD.

edit: what a coincidence, just saw a thread on steam dishonored 2 forums. memory leak? turns out the guy disabled the page file, with 16 gb ram. and surprise, no mem leak with the page file on. so yeah, don't touch if you don't know what you are doing. I agree. Razz

It happens in pretty much every game that will use more than half the system RAM a user has. so I personally consider it bad advice to disable the pagefile, but i'm no expert like shoshomiga Dude Wink

Wife's laptop has unusual disk usage, tops at 100%, the culprit being "System", going for details, it seems ntoskrnl is eating everything.

Did what most suggest, disable Windows Search, Superfetch, windows notifications, even increased virtual memory, but it doesn't solve anything.

Sometimes usage drops to 1-10%, as soon as I right click, goes up to 20-30%.

Searched with adwcleaner, results are null.

Windows updated yesterday, required a restart, could an update messed something up?

Thats is like asking if bears shit in the woods. But being serious here windows seems to put a strain on random areas per user install it seems, everyone I have spoken with has complained about different areas being under load etc, be it superfetch not shutting the fack up, windows defender always checking every little fucking thing you look at start/do etc, telemetry pushing its data raising the disk usage, or system memory tools running and taking up shit tons of ram for what seems at the time no reason.

But I can say that after just going with it sort of speak and waiting a fair few days that things seem to of settled down and it is probably all to do with windows structuring shit how it wants and on what is opened most etc etc, they seem to take great pride in that area of things of late beyond how they used to manage it.

build 14.393.479 here.

As long as you go in with the idea that, the OS gets shittier with every update, one never gets disappointed.

On another note.

uBlock Origin comes to Microsoft Edge

At last!!! Very Happy

well humpers.... I give up lol.

When I took the plunge to Win10 during the free upgrade, I instantly ran shutup10 (amongt other programs) and disabled all that nasty shit people told me I didn't want. Deleted OneDrive, turned off a bunch of features, deleted unnecessary apps...etc The OS worked well for a while, but I always had annoyances and issues. Stuff would randomly not work, I couldn't access the store in some cases, updates wouldn't download, certain programs would act up, services that needed to be on were off.. just plain annoying.

So over the last few weeks my motherboard took a shit, and I said fuck it... I'm just going to rebuild the PC. New mobo, new ram, new cpu, new gpu... and upon loading up windows 10 I made the decision to not fuck with or change the OS with any programs... and you know what? It's been working perfectly since then... not a single issue anywhere.

All I did was disable all the privacy settings and anything else that looked suspicious, uninstalled some unnecessary apps, and configured the OS to my liking.

That being said, I'm sure there is a lot of fuckery going on behind the scenes that I don't even realize... and I just don't care anymore. Have my data, log my keystrokes, learn my patterns... I don't care anymore. I give up, I give in. You win.

Maybe I'm just getting too old for this shit...

welcome to the OCD free side. the OS is so interconnected, that disabling stuff only leads to issues down the line, that become hell to troubleshoot unless you specifically remember everything you disabled. Like the anecdote I posted a few days ago with the telemetry disabling tools breaking basic OS functionality like removing accounts from the account list.

If you treat win10 like win7 you are going to run into issues very likely. so you did the right thing.

Glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. Sure I would love to be able to disable certain things, and most certainly turn off automatic updates... but I learned the hard way. It's just not worth the frustration and issues down the road.

Cheers Smile

the only tweaks I did are the ones the OS itself offers. like disabling updates from downloading on their own (i simply get a notice that updates are available after a certain point of not checking updates myself) and disabling win defender. for those two i used the group policy editor. and the rest i just did from the windows settings. like preventing apps from using the net, or cortana including web searches and adverts.

any stuff I disabled in the services directly or used some third party tools, always led to some issues, even though those same things you could disable easily in win7 and earlier OS's without having issues. Luckily I kept a log of what I changed so it was easy to turn back on.

So yep, I also gave up on tweaking win10 as it simply resulted in more time wasted, time I'd rather spend on gaming Smile

I thought they we're supposed to force it in November? I'm still waiting for the Anniversary Update even though all new machines I build with it get it automatically. Mad May have prevented something in Windows Update back a year ago when having locked down Win10 Pro using a tool.

And if i use that update. Will it mostly go good? Or can you exspect problems. Like in the beginning of the anniversary update.

The latest install media update and cumulative update should install / integrate during the upgrade phase (If there's a net connection available.) so it shouldn't be any problems but it's hard to say for sure since there's so many different system configurations and types of software.
(Most of the initial problems with the Anniversary upgrade should be resolved by now though.)

The upcoming RS2 / "Creator" version of Win10 is doing some pretty extensive changes to the OS core so it's still struggling with compatibility with certain anti-virus type software and various driver compatibility issues but it is a fast-ring insider only release still so bugs are to be expected, full release is planned for sometime in Q1 2017 far as I'm aware but it could be moved to Q2 depending on how things go, latest build started the new update system where it only needs the differing data although going from RS1 / "Anniversary" to RS2 "Creator" will likely still be a full reinstall and then from RS2 to whatever comes next it can do those diff installs from that point on.
(Though MS can and might back port that functionality in time for the full release of RS2 too I suppose.)

i had no issues. but if you have used some tools in the past to disable stuff, i would suggest reverting it before doing the update. then you can re do the tweaks again after the install.
