Zootopia: 8/10.- Well... Disney seems the only ones who are making quality movies to this time.
I found the movie great in many ways.

The Magnificent Seven Men Reboomake 2016 - 5,5/10
Out of all the possible scenarios for a holly re-production, this definitely wasn't the worst one thanks to the cast and tone overall (yes Ghostbusters, I'm still looking at you for setting the bar so low), though as expected it had to pay the derp toll by losing great part of the charm of the 1960's magnificent men.
Good production values (minus the final minutes xD), acceptable acting (sort of, with Chris Pratt being..Chris Pratt) and even a few moments of decency, but wrapped in an uber-simplified vision since here it's all about the generic good vs evil and nothing else really.
I don't consider the 1960 movie a masterpiece, but along with the iconic performances from McQueen, Brynner, Bronson, Vaughn it had heart and morality, Eli Wallach (<3) was actually a relatable 'bad' guy and you could sense genuine human beans.
This one on the other hand comes off as soulless, all about badass cowboys against satan incarnate, with tokens (Asian, Native American, Jennifer Lawrence 2.0), and no points made besides the modernized pew pew.

Mad Max: Fury Road Black & Chrome 8/10
I saw the colour one in the movies, loved it. Saw the B&C new version, loved it more! Your attention goes to the details, and the aesthetic somehow benefits from it, like adding the feel when you see a really good b&w photographic series. If you're a fan of MM:FR I recommend it.

spectral
this film had absolutely wow visual effects given what im sure is hardly a 100 million dollar budget... they were thoughtfully executed, and looked great.. actually the entirety of the films art design, costuming and just the design of everything was first class.
where it falls apart a bit, sadly, was that the writing just wasnt up to the same fantastic standards as the visuals. The acting was adequate (at times a little forced, but thats likely because of the silly writing), but the dialog and the way some sequences played out, really did have the low budget feel.
that said, still a solid film.. if only they had hired a better writer, this would have been an absolutely stellar film - neat concept, great use of effects, interesting story, just... amateur writing.

Rogue one: 2/5
Yeah it was that bad. Its on par with episode 1 (phantom menace) and episode 2 (clone).
The Force awakens was miles better than this.
Really booring.
My god Cushing and Fisher.....they really fucked that one up. They should've left them out of the movie or they should've done more work on those CGI characters.

Would someone that isn't very interested in sci-fi and that has never seen episode 1-6, but only the force awakens (and liked it somehow), understand what it is about and be able to enjoy it?

I'd say chances are good, if you have seen force awakens you can scratch ep 4 of the list too as its pretty much the same movie.

Sound of My Voice - 8/10
Getting ready for The OA: ( http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=108753 ) I watched Sound of My Voice by filmmaking pair Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. It was good, and the storytelling reminded me of Marling's Another Earth.
But be warned: 1 hour in, the film speeds up to reach its conclusion and there is like a chapter missing.. and when the ending comes absolutely nothing is explained (supposedly, it is the first film in a trilogy). One could get frustrated by this and rate it very low, but me, I was frustrated a bit, yes, but can't say I didn't love the ride.
The OA definitely seems made from the same mold so to speak, so now I'm even more excited for it.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

David Brent: Life On The Road 5/10
Pains me to say this as I love gervais and The Office but this just wasn't really that funny. Some good acting from Gervais isn't enough to make up for the lack of decent humour.

magnificent 7
not bad... the big battle was pretty decent for a mainstream action flick, but i wasnt a fan of the build-up. It felt like the band came together a little too easily, and i never really got a sense of who they were as men beyond their basic characteristics... plus little other things, i just didnt like the first chunk of the film, it almost felt like it was an afterthought, and that the filmmaker was entirely focused on the battle.
i also thought Spoiler: | the gatling gun sequence was dumb and lazy.. at that range, with so many buildings for cover, yet they always managed to find the heroes and fire right over their heads... just felt a little cheap. now if theyd bought 2 or 3 and peppered the town, it would have felt a lot less silly. |
all in all, an ok film, but kinda forgettable.

Fucking phenomenal film. Never saw it first time round so bought it on Bluray for £8 and very glad I did. Spectacular, emotional and surprising.
