Some few (masochistic.) players do actually run the catacombs first just because though yeah it takes a bit of technique to get past "just" the bigger cemetery skeletons.
EDIT: And as for Zelda (Or well, Link ) it's a recurring retexture theme for most of the Souls games it would seem.
(Some few players also plink that thing to death with a mix of wooden arrows and bolts not just for the tail/sword but to kill it completely.)
