I have a 3 sensor setup, all up high pointing towards centre of the room and have not had a single loss of tracking. |
No single loss with 360 games?
Try shooting arrows in all directions in e.g Trickster VR. It works to 90%.. EDIT: ah, 3 sensors, ok, then it should work.
On another note...
Does the terrible synthetic smell of the unit go away? It's really getting to me, i dont feel like using it right now because of it, makes me feel slightly sick. First day i had a terrible headache, pretty sure it was from the smell (which then was even more intense).
Probably super healthy to sniff that for hours. mixture of glue and plastic or whatever it is.. Gotta say its what i hate the most with VR, that even your nose is encapsulated in the units, it serves no purpose its just really uncomfortable to breath (and smell) in it, and can also make the screens foggy i've noticed. Total fail here, they really need to be made thinner so your nose can be outside of the unit (people with tall faces might get their nose outside the unit i guess, for me my nostrils are inside, like 1-2 cm up inside the unit).
Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_car_smell (so yeah not the least healthy to inhale that shit for hours).. its the same process here, toxic gas that is released with your nose enclosed in it. Awesome

Superhot is really overrated imo, if it was a $4 game it would be acceptable. Neither like the graphics or the feel - that everything is made of glass.
Best so far for me : hl2, the climb, elite, space pirate trainer, theBlu, subnautica, doom bfg
overrated: thumper, superhot
Crap: fruit ninja

Update.
Well, i updated my setup.
Got the 4 port innatek usb 3 pci express card, another sensor, made a "perfectly spaced" triangle placement for the sensors. No USB hubs, only extensions with one of them being usb 2.0.
Tried onwards. The difference is heaven and earth. I got a lot of twitchy hands, sudden corrections etc. Now i can aim, damnit i can fucking aim now. I can even snipe, i can sit down on the floor and aim, feels VERY good now. The only twitching is my naturally nervous hands.
Im happy, hope it doenst take a shit because thats what happened with 2 sensors, they were good and took a dive. But even when it was good, this is fucking better by a mile.

Will you stop talking about the rift and how awesome it is now... You're making my wallet itch.
I only really sold mine because the God rays were so bad, but apparently removing the faceplate and using a gearvr one eliminates a lot of them...
Is asynchronous fps really that good?

It was saddening to see stars with tails.
But, it wasn't as bad as it could have been - my problem just seemed to be with maintaining focus - I could never seem to find that 'sweet spot'. Still.. I've been using Google DayDream Viewer with the Pixel, and while it's obviously terrible, it still works. And it makes me long for proper tracked VR again, and with my 1080, and the ability to upscale much higher than I could previously.. I can't help but eye up the £499 cost again....

It seems the odds are in your favor so buying is not a bad option. I still have mine packed up ready to sell on eBay because I want version 2.0 with better screens. It's an awesome experience right now but I feel like most people could probably get by if they were able to borrow someones for one week.

Sales of Facebook’s Oculus Rift virtual reality headset could be halted after it lost a lawsuit to software publisher ZeniMax on Wednesday.
ZeniMax, which owns id Software, the former employer of Oculus’ chief technology officer John Carmack, said in a statement that it was considering seeking an injunction after a jury in Texas found that executives at the VR group broke a non-disclosure agreement and infringed its copyright. The jury awarded ZeniMax $500m in damages – a figure that fell short of the $6bn that the software company had sought.
“We will consider what further steps we need to take to ensure there will be no ongoing use of our misappropriated technology, including by seeking an injunction to restrain Oculus and Facebook from their ongoing use of computer code that the jury found infringed ZeniMax’s copyrights,” ZeniMax said.
Oculus declined to comment on the potential injunction. The jury cleared its founder Palmer Luckey and other Oculus executives of stealing trade secrets, after ZeniMax argued that its Rift headset had been created using its own R&D work. The lawsuit was filed soon after Facebook paid $2bn to acquire Oculus in 2014.
ZeniMax said it was “pleased” with the jury’s $500m award.
“In addition, the jury upheld our complaint regarding the theft by John Carmack of RAGE source code and thousands of electronic files on a USB storage device which contained ZeniMax VR technology,” it said. “Oculus’ response in this case that it didn’t use any code or other assistance it received from ZeniMax was not credible, and is contradicted by the testimony of Oculus programmers (who admitted cutting and pasting ZeniMax code into the Oculus SDK), as well as by expert testimony.”
Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg, who gave evidence during the trial, told analysts on Tuesday’s earnings call that while he was pleased with the 5m sales of Samsung’s Gear VR, which is based on Oculus software, it could take 10 years before VR becomes a mainstream technology, requiring many years of significant investment.

Stifle VR development for spite and greed - sounds like another day for US lawyers.
They (probably) got their half billion payout. Now they want to stop the only currently viable* option for VR? Where will it end, seizure of all Rift related assets, such as the storefront, rendering many people's rifts effectively useless?
I am all for Oculus/Facebook paying their dues, but this is just no help to the VR market. It would be like someone killing off VHS and Betamax was 3 times the price - both would and we'd never have got video.
* HTC Vive is simply too expensive, and there are no other consumer VR headsets out there.

HTC Vive too expensive? Um, Oculus costs slightly more with the Touch controllers (which is a must have), you might also want to purchase another sensor for the Oculus.. So yeah, Vive is cheaper (if we want to use that word for PC VR gear..)
I compared prices before buying Oculus + Touch and could have saved at least 150 euro going with Vive..

Vive & Rift are now the same price with controllers, so I concede my earlier statement. I don't need the controllers myself, so I would be happier buying the Rift for £499 right now.
I suppose this make the news a little easier to swallow, but HTC are not developing anything new other than wireless - which is of little use to anyone not living in a hangar. (IMO - I cannot see much use for room scale tbh). HTC NEED to start making a new version soon I think, with at least double the resolution on the screens.
On a side note.. why did noone ever consider making active shutter VR headsets? I would have thought these would effectively eliminate all screendoor issues and thus improve the PQ immensely.

"Don't need?" The controllers are 50% of the experience for VR.. i would have been quite disappointed with the Oculus if it wasnt for the really excellent controllers. There's quite a few titles that requires them.

+1,
Without the controllers or roomscale i wouldnt even bother with VR its would be just like 3d TV meh. Also vive are brining that device that will integrate with peripherals this year, first to market again.. Really glad they are mopping the floor with those shady anti-consumer liars at oculus, i've heard reports they are outselling rift 5:1.

? I guess if you dont like Cockpit games you dont see the point of the Rift, but to me, the MOST time ive spent has been flying and racing. The level of depth that racing/flying in VR is unparalleled. If i had to buy a VR v2, i would buy only 1 sensor and the headset.
Ive had fun with the Touch, its a GREAT extra feature, but to me, cockpits games are all the main focus of VR in my house. its totally worth it imo.
