I truly have no idea why I wasted 8 hours watching this shit. I'm usually fairly open-minded in regards to weird lore/mythology, but this show is just too damn ridiculous. My advice to people who aren't too far into the season: if you get to the end of Ep. 3 and think to yourself "yep, this is getting real dumb", don't be an idiot like me and continue watching because "eh, I might as well finish this", as it only gets worse. Oh god, so much worse. It's a shame too, since I was really enjoying the atmosphere and the music in the first couple of episodes and the lead actress is very good.
why...why not a poem, or a bible passage, a song, a robot formation ballet...
why did they have to come with this:
Spoiler:
That's really going full retard, and therefore kill the mood on the entire serie.
And on top of that, it's plagiarism too!
Spoiler:
In all seriousness, I agree. As I mentioned in the previous page, that specific aspect of the show is pretty much the only one that genuinely put me off completely, in the end I had the facepalm posture throughout its entire duration.
I can tolerate strategical nonsense if it's for the greater good, I can accept the derp, embrace it even, but no, not the Power Rangers. Still, I regret nothing
Since you regret nothing you should really watch Sound of My Voice ixi!! (Same for others that liked The OA).
It's very much a prototype of The OA, you will find it fascinating noting how similar they are. Marling gives her best girl-that-is-not-quite-of-this-world performance to date in it, plus she looks the prettiest she's ever looked in a movie (according to my tastes of course ).
But don't watch the trailer, it's pretty spoilery! I mean it!!
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Finally got to watch this. I rather liked it, not something revolutionary or well done like ST or WW.
I don't get the hate at the conclusion. I'm fine with it being left for interpretation and I'm leaning torwards it
Spoiler:
being all just a figment of imagination in psychiatric ward. Even if this kind of resolution starts to be a little overused.
sar·casm | \ ˈsär-ˌka-zəm \
1: a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual
b: the use or language of sarcasm
The conclusion won't be just "I was crazy lol " because Marling is a feminist that wants to write about a woman who experiences a traumatic event, but she's not just a victim, she has agency and is able to take control, heal and move on. To conclude that OA is just nuts won't do any good.
But yeah until we get there, there might be a psychiatric ward involved. Homer's NDE was in a hospital setting and Hap's record of his NDE he listened was about him NOT being Homer, in his NDE, Homer was the name of a doctor.
That points to Homer being a deluded patient that has adopted the name of the doctor treating him. Perhaps "Hap" really is someone on the hospital staff that has been drugging, raping and abusing them for years.

"Smart testified that she was raped three to four times daily, tied up and threatened with death if she attempted to escape."
I think it makes sense that most kidnapping cases that are not for ransom or stealing of organs are rape/torture cases for the sadistic pleasure of the kidnapper
b) If there's something else going on, as I'm discussing with VonMisk, then OA's extreme aversion to being touched could be read as a result of having been touched inappropriately. Her scars on her back would also be from being tortured/beaten.
c) A girl approaches OA and tells her she is very brave for surviving being beaten and raped for years - presumably that's the rumor one can read about her online I guess. If I recall correctly OA seemed, well, confused by the statement but not necessarily as having heard something completely absurd.
To conclude, not that we know of, but it wouldn't be absurd if they reveal it later.

According to the interviews Zal and Brit wrote it having in mind that they may have only one season and the way the series ended was done on purpose.
Spoiler:
As not explaining really anything and left it for the viewer to interpret by himself but on the other hand having themselves a door to continue the story. But so far Netflix tend to continue their series and from some of their tweets it seems that "The OA - Season 2" is happening.
The interviews also paint a picture that they focused more about life trauma and the personal reconciliation with it than any major plot line. Everyone in the OA's 5 had some personal issues that he struggled with and by the contact with her and her experience got some smaller or bigger resolution. Maybe except the OA herself.
It baffles me that reading the comments on for example IMDB so many people can't fathom the idea that Hap and the whole NDE experiment might be just made up and her not telling any details about him to FBI is one major plot whole.
Heard about it. Proudly never watched it. Not even a single episode
Don't get me wrong I don't think The OA is second comming of Tv Shows Jesus. As I said it was ok. The ending scene was off beat. And I can't compare it to from what I have heard most overrated show ever.
“Some of the research people do — it’s amazing. Someone found right away the one mine in North America that’s 8,000 feet deep, which is the location that we had been inspired by based on this Harper’s article,” she said of the location of her character’s captivity.
“So that part of it is fantastic, the sort of forensic aspect of fandom. We did, in the beginning, in collaboration with Alex DiGerlando the production designer, who really is sort of the third Musketeer in terms of storytelling with Zal and I, we felt like, How do we make a show that can stand up to that kind of scrutiny? Because now you can stop and start, you can watch it three times, you can screengrab and share it and be on Reddit. So you have to have a narrative that’s robust enough to live up to that expectation. So we really tried to think about that and make sure every image and every frame was honest, and if we should get more than one season out, you could go back and watch the first season again and go, "It was all there".”
Quote:
“The truth is, before Zal and I started doing this, we thought you could potentially get caught up in doing something like this for many years. So you better be sure all those years of your life are going to be interesting, so that’s why we spent a good year and a half upfront before we even wrote the first chapter, designing the labyrinth and making sure there was something at its center that would feel worthwhile to arrive at,” Marling said. “So there is a "there" there, but whether or not we’ll be able to get there is another question. But we always had an intention for where a second season would start and where it would end. it was important to know all those things upfront. So I guess we’ll just have to see if we get to tell it.”

Just finished it and quite enjoyed it... well enjoyed the ride, and I guess I have to thank The Leftovers for that. Probably wouldn't have given this much chance after the first two epis if I didn't learn to just go with it.
Ok... color me surprised they (seemingly - but we'll see..) picked up "she really did it" for season 2 and run with it, rather than playing with the 2 possibilities.
And this season looks way more "scifi mythology" heavy. I hope it won't lose its emotional moments.
I didn't like how little of the rest of the gang we see in the trailer.
Anyway.. excited!

I'm 20 mins in, and apart from the boobs I am underwealmed. Should I even bother watching the first 3?
IMO: The end of episode 1 and the end of episode 2 completely change what kind of series you thought you were watching up to that point. So watch at least until the end of ep1 before you decide if you want to drop it.

New setting. New characters. New storylines. New mysteries!
Even though it is a continuation and picks up all the threads the previous season and its finale left hanging, it feels VERY different from season 1 so far, in terms of tone, direction, music, everything...
A little worried, but also very intrigued. I just hope it will still have emotional moments and won't be purely about shadowy organizations experimenting on people, and what not.

Ah.. I wish I could say the same. I just finished watching ep4 and I really don't like the new direction after all. No subtlety and full of silly mumbo jumbo. I really wasn't expecting this. I can't believe they haven't even used the amazing theme from the previous season.
I hope it changes a bit in the remaining half of the season.

The ending is so Brit Marling. SO Brit Marling. Literally.
That was neat. But otherwise the season was spirit this, medium that, house this, game that. WTF is that bullshit. Gone is much of the lyricism and spirituality of it. We didn't see a single NDE, (almost) didn't meet a single spirit guide, OA didn't share a single story (which is what Marling did great during season 1). Not to mention how little some characters interact with each other, but let's not get into spoilers here.
They got a much bigger budget this season and they turned half of the show into some cop drama or something, like it's literally any other TV series.
And don't let me start on how the characters are explaining all the mysteries of the previous season while talking like this:
- "Remember when we didn't know where NDEs take you? I wondered what that meant."
- "Oh, they take you to x."
- "Remember about the books last season? I wondered what that meant."
- "Oh, the book meant that y."
- "Remember about the FBI agent last season? I wondered that that meant."
- "Oh, it means that z."
But that's what you get when the creators admit they read the fan theories and are impressed by the fanbase. They tried to prove to reddit that they know exactly what they are doing by showing that "Look, we told you everything has an answer, and here are the answers!". Delivered in such an artificial way just so they prove themselves.
I adored the first season. But this didn't really explore any of the parts of the show that I liked in this one.
There are a few neat ideas and moments, but overall this was a big disappointment for me.
