Interesting ... Ii guess we are no better than PCGamer who gave it to Dishonore 2 aka just another fucked-up PC port
Also with only SW being in Top 10 from indie side and rest AAA ... seems like we are even moe mainstream than the media we often shit on

Ah the fresh smell of disagreement, wondering how a particular list came together that was being voted on by many many people.
tl;dr keep your moaning to yourself.

But we've always been mainstream
If I recall correctly, Deus Ex: Human Revolution won in 2011, then Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, (we missed the 2014 one as far as I remember), The Witcher 3 and now we're back to Jensen.
It's expected that popular games have more attention, nothing has fundamentally changed really, and it's very much okay.
The biggest difference is that our position of buccaneerish men (in all its forms, including the pseudo one of happy family sharing) makes us savour gaming with no filters in a more genuine way, free from shady businesses hiding behind journalism and (mostly) free from the dangerous and silly hype machine. There are still cases of inadequate prehurrdurring, but thankfully the vaccines of late for the shittyport disease have been granting fairly positive effects to the Humpy populace.

I'm surprised Stardew got a top 10, thought I was one of the few that voted on it... expected WoW: Legion to be in it so that was also a surprise to me.
As to AAA's, well we usually end up playing those first. I had to struggle finding games of this year since I usually am playing away my back log and can only be tempted by the flavour of the month once in a while. I guess the EA status of most indies also plays a role.

nah .. there was quite a bunch of awesome nonEA indie titles this year ... but looking back at the post only me , ixi and mentioned any of them
... kinda expected at least one of the bigpublisher backed ones aka Unravel/Inside/Abzi (i guess e problem of the D) will hit Top 10 as the AAA production was IMO kinda lacluster and very often technycally broken this year

I guess I am the other way around , I am struggling to find a time and intention to slogg through majority of AAA production . but always get a time to play some of my the indie darlings
.. I guess part of it is that I love to play games in its IP chronology as they vere released ... and wih the fact that most of the AAA are sequels , i am very often game or two behind
... Also I find hard to actually enjoy most of them as it all feels too samey or there is just one or two features that annoys me to insanity (like gorykills and pinatas in Doom or the raping of my language in Mankind Denuvoed)

we had a good year wüthbgames in my opnion.
The "problem" with indie games would bebthat most ofthem are taking either too long or are in early access.
So you cant even count games like rimwolrd which is my favourite goty 2016 so far.
Anyhow let's see what this year brings.
