1 month of usage or more, of an undisputed single and dual GPU king has always had an exorbitant price of entry and is pretty much reserved for the rich and the crazy.

GTX 1080 Founder$ edition seems to have a fan issue, where it briefly revs like mad for no reason.
That should be annoying as hell.
Glad I waited for custom product.

And thus the 30$ came back to Nvidia.
As it was prophesied a long time ago.

I was planning on buying one anyway. So either way somebody is getting the money. Might as well be $30 less. Unless they squeeze a Ti out from betwixt their asscheeks.

Heh well AMD has had some of that too but recently their bugs are mostly from neglecting D3D11 and OGL in favor of D3D12 and Vulkan and of course their Crimson control panel while far faster than CCC was is still lacking some features and can be a bit wonky.
(CPU overhead is better but still behind Nvidia though in turn Nvidia is not quite on par with D3D12 and Vulkan but are also improving so hopefully there will be some more active competition around that the next couple of years, perhaps they could even close in on Intel a bit with Zen but that's complete speculation for now with the only info coming from AMD directly so it's not totally reliable, same as when it's from Intel or Nvidia directly.)
16.12.1 in particular making ADL 6.0 and older something like legacy in favor of whatever it was called (Moving much of the GCN series to the Wattman interface.) has caused a number of issues on older GPU models and software used to control clock speeds and similar on those.
(There are workarounds though but from my understanding AMD's ADL library is a bit more difficult than Nvidia's nvAPI library albeit both are closed and covered by NDA's so not just everyone can work with them.)

Nvidia rolls out game streaming on a GTX 1080 cloud for $2.50 an hour
Quote: | Nvidia’s overhauled GeForce Now service will deliver on-demand game streaming from a GTX 1060 or GTX 1080-powered cloud to PC and Mac computers starting in March, Nvidia announced during its CES keynote last night.
But it won’t be cheap.
Once registered for the service, customers get eight hours free on a GTX 1060 stream or four hours on a GTX 1080 stream. After that, it will cost $25 for 20 hours on the 1060 or 10 hours on the 1080.
GeForce Now, which formerly only worked on Nvidia’s Shield devices, is now compatible with most Windows- and Mac-based desktop PCs and laptops, according to the press release.
To use the service, a customer just has to download the GeForce Now app to their local machine and connect to a GeForce GTX virtual PC.
Once connected, they can install games from “popular digital game stores -- like Steam, Battle.net, Origin, Uplay and GOG -- and start playing.” Free-to-play games like League of Legends or World of Tanks can also be installed directly from their respective websites.
Nvidia is is offering a free early access membership to the service. Access will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis selected from members on the waitlist. You can sign-up for that right here. |
