Movie industry has come a long way I suppose, back then you actually had to find some ugly guy whereas these days any celebrity will do and then a bit of computer editing. (And what with the horrid use of plastic surgery you might not even need much of said editing at all. ) Same with the gore effects, less of a need for pumps and misuse of food although from what I heard some directors still use stuff like that. (Tarantino in particular seems to have used a pretty big one - or several. - for the Django movie resulting in some bruises for the actor who had to actually wear said pump/bomb device. )
