Didn't know this was a procedurally generated levels thingy where you die and die and die, think I would've preferred corridors and levels like the 90's Very Happy I got shitloads of games on the backlog, no time to play the same shit over and over and over. Wanted to buy this for the gore but I'll Iso demo it instead now Very Happy

I don't like that they are giving a pre-order exclusive gun, which is the strongest in the game Mad

I feel this will be another disappointment like that Descent clone with procedurally generated levels.

Procedural levels just means they have no budget or talent to deliver meanigful content, story, level design etc.. insta-pass for me on that alone. Procedural levels have only been good in like 3 games ever, diablo 1 & 2 and path of exile.

the pre-order gun is also trash game confirmed, fingers crossed our old-school marketing ropes in some derps.

Most weapons have some very bland animations and lack any "oomph" effect though.

Biggest mistake FPS games make if you ask me. Doom had really good powerful weapons with suitable sounds - making the guns feel powerful is what makes the game fun instead of a chore. Make them sound like a peashooter and you won't feel half the rush ...

Yeah, in Doom (1993) they mixed some sounds to get a huge oomph. There is even a goddamn tiger growling in the super shotgun blast sound Very Happy

And the guns react violently with recoil and there is a reloading animation etc.

Half Life, Far Cry 2 and F.E.A.R. had nice weapons Sad

Tried this release, it's some kind of beta, based on the filenames. Anyway, I encountered lots of big stutters and finally a crash after I died.

Anyway, this game is all style and no substance, the shooting is weak, the interface not clear, the enemies very basic. The procedurally generated levels are non-descript and you will be bored very quickly, especially if you miss a lift or something.

This is a fail, men. Better get GZDoom if you wanna have some old-school fun.

This steam review nails it:
Quote:
This is a terrible game. It tries to emulate the visceral action of a 90s shooter but completely fails.

The fundamental gameplay loop is fatally flawed. Since all enemies immediately zero in on the player in a direct line, the player is encouraged to run backwards while funnelling the enemies into narrow corridors for maximum kill potential. A game like this should encourage a player to run into the fray and strafe around, but this game does the opposite.

Everything else about the game is poor too: Levels are just randomly joined together square rooms with no semblance of level design at all; The powerups and weapon pickups are either useless or are worse than your default weapon; the armor and ammo are ludicrously expensive and the progression is unsatisfying.

On top of all this, the basic gameplay is not fun or impactful. Guns lack impact and the enemies are boring. The physics are floaty and everything feels weightless.

Avoid.

I have to disagree with many things there. But that's okay. We all have our assholes.. uhm, opinions.

I love the complaints about the AI everywhere though. Fucking hilarious. If there is one constant with shooters (or many other genres) than that's that the AI behaviour is shit and simplisitc. To this very day. Some manage to make it looks like they are smart (FEAR) but under the hood, they are definitely not.

That doesn't mean it's an excuse. But to expect that this game will pioneer shooter AI is... fucking pathetic.

Played 2 mins and uninstalled and refunded. Even the old games like Quakeworld are much, much better. Fuck these lazy devs trying to make some 96 game. Theres no excuse for this garbage.

I guess the marketing and it truly being just a rogue-like shooter will and is causing alot of disappointment Laughing

Good thing I looked into it deeper than most people I guess. Disappointment averted because I enjoy it for what it truly is behind that edgy 90's curtain.

Has nothing to do with any 90's shooter. It's just pure indie trash. Everything about it. What bothered me the most was the awful shooting and sounds. I love rogue like games but they need to have good gameplay and feeling. This has neither.

It is trash, try the isodemo if you need to.

The enemies in Doom were brain dead as well, but they had some pattern so it took some skill. In this game you just backtrack as they come towards you, you fire the weakest guns imaginable and they crumble like they are made of plasteline.
