Well I guess it's not that bad although for a game from years ago (2002 - 2003 in this case.) I guess getting a good price for a perfect condition still sealed boxed version could be problematic.
And this was before people started adding RC cars, resin statuettes and such to these collector editions, sometimes without the actual game going by some of the EA and Ubisoft listings but those two in particular love splitting their games into I think there's almost five or so versions of Watch_Dogs 2 for one example.
(Regular edition, deluxe edition, gold edition - deluxe edition wasn't that deluxe after all, DeadSec edition and then the Chicago edition - which I think came sans the actual game but with a working toy quadrocopter.)
I do like my Stalker CE though, a little metal box with some wear & tear added to make it a bit more fitting to the games theme, I think they had a number of other goodies but much of it was for the home market. (Also have the Bioshock CE, box wasn't too great but the Big Daddy arrived intact aside from a little damage on one of the knee cap things, kinda adds to it though instead of having it's drill snapped off like happened for many others.)
Sadly since the 2000's or so the lovingly hand painted cover arts and hand written 100+ page manuals even in crap games (Ultima IX ascension.) are all gone now. 
(Arcanum manual for example covered about everything on the game, races, historical background and political climate just because, said Ultima IX - which should never have been released. - had something similar along with a guide for spells and reagents for them.)
...Of course if you lived in the US during the 1980's and 1990's the console game box art you guys got was...different. 
Megaman 1 is a way too popular example, then again yeah.
