Can't understand why they do this...

Hopefully smartflix team somehow manages to fix it(which I'm doubtful). :/

Sometimes reinstallation of Smartflix works.

Still works for me, but it must only be a matter of time.

Smartflix was what made Netflix worth it. Without smartflix I'm going to cancel my account.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Well the message I got said it affects roughly around 30% of the users,so most are safe for now.

I'll try reinstalling it and see if it works.

Just checked on reddit and the devs of Smartflix are aware of the issue and trying to fix it. Netflix is apparently trying some new antivpn solution which doesn't allow SmartDNS.

But like Couler said if Netflix wins with their new policy I cancel the sub.

We can only hope that Netflix see the massive unsubscriptions and folds.

I mean, they add a ton of new countries, get people to sign up for the same amount as in the US while giving only 10-20% of the content and then remove a very well known loophole? Surely they can't be so naive not to realize that many people sign up knowing they can watch the huge library that other countries have!

For me, I loved using the UK version since it had tons of great British shows that you couldn't easily find for download. What's left on the Belgian version, is the kind of stuff I can very easily download most of the time so why would I still pay €9 a month?

Ummm, netflix were basically forced into plugging that loophole. It was in their best interest to keep it open, however in this case Sony didn't think so.

That's what I noticed when I used a VPN trial, that many sites blacklist them. It was only a matter of time until Netflix did that. Kinda defeats the purpose of a VPN if you can barely use it to circumvent the damn geoblocking. Mad
Also often I had to enter CAPTCHA while browsing and using VPN service for portscanning/exploits is expressively prohibited. So why should I get a VPN then?? Glad I didn't pay for this crap.

Hello,

Not sure if it's right place to ask, but here is my question:

Previously Smartflix was working fine (as in other country catalog was listed), but now it doesn't seem to work. Sad It's just showing my region catalog.

Anyone else having same issue?
Is there any fix?

Thank you.

From their site:

"Following the very recent, extremely aggressive and targeted VPN/proxy crackdown by Netflix, we do not feel confident we can provide the same quality of service we used to provide to our users. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. —The entire Smartflix Team "

Iirc not long ago it used to say that they cancelled all subscriptions because they couldn't bypass the vpn/proxy crackdown.
Not sure why the text has been changed...maybe they found a possible way to bypass it, for a while anyway.

Another way is to buy your own VPS in a country of your choosing and set up a tunnel. They can't blacklist that, since it's a private server.

Is there no other way around? (i.e. without paying, since I'm already paying for netflix, if I had to pay extra I'd just go back to the 'old' ways Laughing)

Why? Hastings blames the media, sort of. He says reports about the price hike Netflix is instituting this year, which raises the price of its most popular plan by a dollar a month, confused people and got them to stop paying even before their actual price hike kicked in.

LMFAO yeah many people unsubbed because they learned that later this year the price would go up 1 fucking dollar Laughing Laughing Laughing

That's the reason, of course!! Laughing

I didn't know much about Netflix, but I am interested in a sub now since they produce great shows. Did I understand correctly that if I get a sub, I can only watch a small portion of their catalog? So what's the use of the big digital catalog if you restrict it?

It depends were you live as the catalog is restricted to the distribution rights Netflix obtained for particular countries.
You could use a VPN to watch almost everything but one day some one at Sony woke up and thought - wow people pay to stream their favourite shows and not pirate them from the torrents and made a threatening mail that they will pull down Sonys' movies from Netflix.
Well it wasn't like that but Sony and some other companies weren't too happy about people watching their shows all over the world and not buying their BRs so they stick a branding rod to Netflix anus and said: 'crack down the VPNs or we will pull out our licensed crap from your VOD'.
And Netflix being the pussy it apparently is had done that.

So it's a better business tactic to castrate Netflix and push people into piracy, instead of offering a proper legal option Laughing Well, I'll keep leeching I guess.

Netflix's major attraction point is the huge library of movies and shows, I wasn't aware they had to restrict it. The Netflix originals are just the cherry on top. If I search for what is available here in NL, I only get a huge list of the library. I can't see how much they blocked for NL.

Except not quite.

For some originals they have sold the rights to local distributors. With a deal that they can stream even the originals only AFTER the local distributor has aired it.

Orange is new black for example has such a deal.

If I understood correctly, Netflix doesn't give insight in their catalog in the region you live. So you'll have to use external sites before getting a membership, to see what you actually get for that membership. How retarded is that?
Using external sites to check the catalog, it appears here in NL it's mostly movies and not shows Sad I watch 10 shows or so, six of those isn't on Netflix ffs. I know 10 bucks a month isn't much, but putting these hurdles up is stupid. I know it's business and not entirely their fault, but it still pushes me to piracy. I feel dirty Sad

I noticed that a lot of series have gone in the past year. They promised a lot of new content when they started blocking VPN and yet it feels like the kind of stuff I like watching is decreasing.

Yeah, I've bene reading up on it since I really like the concept now, but Netflix seems to have taken the "our originals rule, fuck the rest" attitude atm. Bleh, I can download illegally even the weirdest shit, but a lot of the most common shit isn't available through legal channels.
