Kitase confirms that VII-R will be a multi-year release, with each of the three "episodes" being full games, like the XIII saga. Also, since they created the original story, they feel free to change anything they like and will be changing swaths of the story.
yay.. >_> Buy FFVII-R in 2019, finish it in 2025. Can't wait. Can't wait for the Aerith Revival Story DLC, only $19.99!
It got rebooted again since these early designs and concepts so chances are it won't be whatever these show the game to be.
Though on the downside this happened for some other Final Fantasy games and that usually adds another year or two to development if not longer depending on how much is reworked if not outright scrapped.
The above is a early 2017 image though, as mentioned it was recently announced they had reworked the game yet again and before that there was also various media showing things to have changed significantly from these images.
Idiot japs gonna make some shitty frankenstein monster game. They keep messing up the final fantasy games. Is there a single final fantasy game from the 3d era which was developed in peace and the pace that was required to follow through the original vision? It seems every game suffers from director being replaced, visions being changed mid way, and probably other crappy issues.
7 started on SNES, moved to N64, N64 didn't have DD support though despite Nintendo's initial plans so the only thing remaining are early images and tech videos.
(The disc drive and storage capacity compared to cartridge plus less expensive as well but the hardware upgrade would be a problem of course.)
Of course the game itself turned out just fine as the first of the 3d Final Fantasy games.
EDIT: After that well, supposedly the animated movie blew the budget big time and planned remakes got canned and Square ended up Square/Enix via a merger.
10 was something entirely different at one point before certain parts were re-used for FF10, 12 was in development hell too and even had one of the directors leave mid-way due to stress and health issues taking a toll and well 15 is, a mess really even more so than 13 and it's two sequels were.
Ultimately it seems 15 did well sales wise though now Kingdom Hears 3 is moving at a glacial pace and there's not much about the latest updates to FF7R besides that it's still happening but it might have been anything from rebooted to completely scrapped and restarted, again.
(GRIN also at one point had a game set in Ivalice from FF12 but as a Norse mythology perspective but Square killed that and possibly GRIN too when they didn't like the direction the game was taking but there's mostly just concept art and not much else so hard to say how that would have been if it had gotten released.)
EDIT: Well I can't know what the problem is with some of these projects, ultimately it feels like they've had too many directors and other long-term employees being given more free reign instead of being reigned in or supervised even whey probably should be controlled a bit, if it works out in terms of sales I suppose Square will be happy at least.
(Is FF7 Remake even episodic still?)
Cover system, cloud runs like fucking naruto ... This is gonna bomb hard for the people who is waiting "remake", those who have used to play modern era FF shit probably will love it. Atleast graphics look better than original FF VII .
ep 1 by 2021, ep 2 by 2024, epic 3 cancelled in 2028 after further development hell.
Atleast they took it away from hack Nomura, but it's still Square.
It’s been three years since we’ve seen anything from Square Enix regarding its episodic remake of Final Fantasy VII. The game was a no-show again at E3 this year, but it remains in development, according to Tetsuya Nomura, who has a hand in the title along with directing Kingdom Hearts III. “We are developing [Final Fantasy VII] in parallel, and it’s not just in the early concept stages,” he tells The Verge. “We are actually in development.”
