pax wanted a geforce titan aswell, but technically he doesnt neeeded it
ofc there are cases were 8/16 cores are useful. but thats not any mainstream stuff. the only thing that might actually happen is intel dropping the price of the -e cpus. none to zero effects on the "normal" market. but we will see, still no reliable benches etc out.
overall pc cost might raise at all in the future months, not only ram is short atm
If you use simple maths here, you will discover that intel is forced to make 8 core / 16 threads CPU´s in the 400-600 dollar range, and that 1000 dollar and beyond is then for their absolute extreme shit, like 10 cores and beyond. No matter how you twist it up, but 10-15% better IPC is not going to make it up against extra 4 cores / 8 threads in the same price range.
Ofcourse this all recent leakage can be total bullshit, and AMD has cooked faildozer 2.0
sure intel has to do that, they havent done it yet cause they had no reason to do it. and crazy people were willing to pay those stupid prices. if a competitor (which is only amd in that market, or lets say: was. they arent back yet) comes out with cheaper stuff which is competition for intel they will drop them prices. thats basic market economy
but i think 10-15% better IPC can make the difference till casual applications can make use of 8+ cores. whats my personal profit if i can get a 8/16 core cpu for the same price which is in 99% of my applications/games slower cause they simply cant use it? it took ages for games to make good use of 4 cores, most of them still dont use 8 cores properly (which is slowly changing, due to consoles having more cores. but games are still shitty optimized, until that changes nothing changes)
Multithreading using all cores is still an argument though. And if we're lucky people switch because of it, irregardless of whether they can utilize it.

Playing shit ports + x264 recording shit ports + running VM in background + OS tasks/browsing, occasionally as mentioned Photoshop/Lightroom. I could really use an octacore (I only have 6700K atm).
Their mid-range CPU looks , however as cheap as I am I wish the prices went down further.
AMD is good as competition, you aren't supposed to buy their shit. It looks like their new line is good, so Intel's reply will be yummy. That's what you buy, the yummy Intel stuff!

That doesn't make any sense, i'm happily buying their shit. If you wanna have Intel and wait for their new line or pay almost double the price, that's up to you though.

Double the price?
Dude I am advocating waiting for the new Intel line after this that will be price-matched to Ryzen.
Well, that would be a new. Since even when AMD was at one point matching and exceeding performance to Intel they still were much more expensive than AMD. You might see a drop from 1000 to 800 at best.
Then again, that's not written in stone.

Whats the difference anyway? If AMDs products are better priced now, why wait for intel? Whats more yummy about it? The blue color?
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
I'd say wait a little bit for intel's reaction, if you can. If there is none, AMD appears like it can be a really good choice. Otherwise it makes no sense to wait. There will be always be something better, faster, cheaper along the line and you'll wait forever
Plus wait for more benchmarks of production models and overclocking capabilities.

What new Intel line?
Cannon Lake is 18 months away. In between we'll probably get yet another tweaked version of Sky Lake called Coffee Lake, but according to the same rumours that will likely target low to mid end only.
So the only thing you can expect from Intel in the near(ish) future is a price drop. And based on AMD's numbers, that drop has to be pretty fucking substantial. Intel's 8-core products will need a 50% price cut if benchmarks next week show that AMD's numbers are correct. Things like a 7700K are also still too expensive when AMD pits an 8C/16T product against it at the same price point.
We haven't even seen their 4C/8T products and again, if all the numbers are correct, every single one of these things can actually still lag behind Intel and still be justifiable because they are far more efficient. They are all 65W/95W products pitted against 91W/125W/140W products. Basically, that means the 6900K will not only have to be cut by 50% just to match the price point, it'll then still be a part that consumes 35W more than the competition. Again, that's provided AMD's numbers are correct, but we're at a point where they can't afford to bullshit so even if the numbers differ slightly due to different testing systems, I suspect they're pretty close to reality.
And if the HUEHUEHUEHUE 6-9 months ago on here is anything to go by, that means it's at least 3500% worse and should cost 50% of whatever AMD do.
