Several sites have written that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has gone gold, referencing the recent news by stalker-world.com.ua:

We got some information that GSC had recently finished its work on Stalker. The final build has the whole storyline, 20 levels and all of the features. With other words final version. The only thing missing are the videos, they will be made by THQ with the balancing of the game. Along with it we expect the PR campaign to begin. This means that everything is in THQ hands and S.T.A.L.K.E.R should be released in 6-8 months.

What the site tried to say, is that the game has reached beta stage. The release is still scheduled for "When It's Done", and as THQ has previously stated, this will not occur before Fall 2006.

Not a change.. game is still probably like 6 months or more until its finished. Actually they said last time when the question about release date popped out something about very late 2006 or something..

Yeah, well its not gold if isn't finished yet...

Apparyntly they got feature-lock and now its to THQ for their publisher internal beta testers. They'll find several bugs return it to GSC and so on until all is all right. Thats at least 3 months yet to wait, for such a big game like stalkre it's going to be maybe 5 months....

Its not gold yet, video's have to be finished. But i'm surprised that it says that the game has 20 levels, i thought the game was about open gameplay with quests. If it has become a level based game then the devs have failded to achieve their original goals, gave up and made a standard shooter based on the engine and some of the material they already had. I think the remainder is a mediocore shooter with an old graphics engine. Nothing to be excited about.

Stalker by the date it was announced looked "ok", these days it's nothing special, I played latest beta and even the AI which supposed to rock the game is pretty standard, another big-bang-nothing if you ask me Sad

i dont believe its true the last mp beta was only about 1-2months old and it didnt feel very complete.
maybe single player is different but i dont believe they would bother with multiplayer if they werent going to do a proper job of it before release

Plz, don't talk shit. HL2 was awesome, and it was hardly 'full of bugs'.

how? They're doing this so that people don't forget completely about that already outdated, way overdue game. Who cares actually? By the time it's out I'll probably download it but those lame-assed pot-smoking developers won't see a cent for fooling people for years. They should've kept their mouths shut until exactly 6 months before the release. Period.

Please elaborate on these Half-Life 2 "bugs". Also, I think that STALKER has taken so long because the scrapped the entire of what they had three times. But, we'll never know how good it is until we play it.
