ugh, too many good games. Already finished yakuza 0. and Horizon coming up.. Now im struggling to not buy this.. I played DS2 but not DS3. Are the controls "fair"? By that i mean, in DS i knew that i fucked up cuz i sucked but could never fault the controls. If you get what i mean.
Yep, if you fuck up, its your fault so git gud, same as with souls games.
The combat is even more fair as it gives you alot more freedom and options, which also raises the skill ceiling compared to souls games, so we'll surely get some fun PVP out of it.
Mind though that you will need some time before it clicks, like the first time you play a souls game.
The combat is easily superior, but don't expect the lore and world design to rival souls, it's more simplistic here.
Bought it. Been playing it for 8hrs now. Love it. I know what you mean by the "click". The Kusarigama is fun as hell to wield around and i died way to often at the very first boss cuz i didnt notice the Living Weapon Combo. The fact that its in 60FPS makes the combat much better imho. The FPS mode downscales the gfx it quite a bit (On normal PS4) but i dont care.
I always stuck to framerate over visuals. I thought they looked pretty good. Tempted to try the cinema mode to see how much better it looks now though.
The difficulty curve of this game is really weird. The first 3 bosses gave me a really hard time, to the point where I thought I might not be able to finish the game without summons if this keep going.
But then it suddenly became easier and this continued for the rest of the game. The second half was basically a breeze compared to the beginning. And no I don't think that's just because I became good at the game. The later bosses just died much faster and did less damage to me.
Also I didn't use the blacksmith and just went with gear I found so I don't think my character was overgeared.
I really enjoyed the game but the difficulty of the second half or so was really disappointing, most of the bosses died within 2 trys and I'm usually not very good at souls like games.
If you want a game with Souls style gameplay, get Nioh, if you want a game with a really great story and characters plus shitloads of content and funny sidequests, get Yakuza 0.
In late March there will be new high level missions released. Then in late April there'll be PvP added, around the same time as the game's first DLC: Dragon of The North.
Dragon of The North is going to add new characters, yokai, weapon types, and the like.
Tecmo also announced two more DLC to be released later this year: 'Japan's Best Warrior' and 'Peaceful and Tranquil'.
Really enjoying this game I have to say. Been playing it more than anything else just lately! It's goddamn big too! I can't believe how similar it is to From's games!
Thats why im baffled that it actually turned out to be so awesome. I truly expected something like Dragons Dogma (albeit having its charms, a really flawed game). NIOH is an oldschool bundle of joy.
Clearly Team Ninja were inspired by the success of From Software's IP and it goes without saying that there would be no Nioh without the souls and Bloodborne games. Im just surprised there is no lawsuit given how many similarities Nioh has.
Also gotta say I love the UI! Its so streamlined and friendly!
game is great though itemization is garbage like diablo3.
ive gone through about 9 or 10 bosses and so far the hardest one was that vampire bitch (2nd boss i think?). though i didnt realize you can lock on and sprint around and easily dodge.
fuck that water blob too with its instakill laserbeam. hardly any warning when that shit goes off sometimes. i think it iced me a couple times immediately as i spawned too.
Yeah that Nue is pretty annoying to fight against, using low stance is best option. Kkilled him just before the boss in the last mission of zone 3, where he is an optional mob. Still pretty fucking though tho. But it seems to me that like most bosses are just spamming attacks, one after the other. And they have perfect aim as well, so basically it's dodge every second lol. I prefer the samurai fights then, much more fun.

I hate that thing! That's where I am right now trying to beat it a 2nd time as it appears later midway through a mission. And it's still just as annoying.
Spoiler:
I'm assuming destroying those crystals makes it easier?

Doubt that destroying those make it easier, if I'm not mistaken those big crystals are needed to open those big doors.
All screenshots or videos I saw of this game are in bland and dark environments. Is the whole game like that? It seems like environment variety is pretty much zero even though combat is great

The game mostly consists of "dark" environments, yes. However each region presents their own interpretation of the area. Right now i'm in a snow region compared to a previous one which mostly consisted of caves and temples.
Slicing its way onto PlayStation Store on 2nd May, Dragon of the North follows on from William’s valiant struggle in the main game. Rumours have emerged from the Oshu region that its ambitious ruler, Masamune Date (the “one-eyed dragon”) is secretly gathering spirit stones. With the Yokai flourishing in Oshu, turmoil and unrest is inevitable…
As you battle your way through a new region with original stages, you’ll encounter these terrifying new Yokai, hell-bent on destroying you. Thankfully, you’ll be able to take advantage of a new weapon – an odachi – as well as armour, ninja skills, magic… and you’ll also gain the aid of fresh Guardian Spirits to help in your mission. And to cap it all off, Dragon of the North will also include pulse-pounding PvP features.
Tomorrow sees the release of its Dragon of the North DLC, which adds a new section to the game, new story missions, and a tonne of new items and enemies to carve your way through.
