I guess I'll bump this thread instead of making a new one.
Today I had to put down my 15 year old dog after her health had been steadily declining for weeks. I didn't think I'd get emotional, but as soon as the vet did the injection and my dog's breathing ceased it was the only time I've cried in front of anyone since I was a little kid. It was more upsetting than the deaths of some family members.
Throughout her life she would sleep on my bed every night and most of the day, and now whenever I walk in my room I still expect to see her there. I also keep thinking I hear familiar noises, like the jingle of her tags as she would walk down the hall. My niece wanted to make a memorial for her so we went to the store and bought stuff to make a picture collage, I'll probably hang it up in the living room.

Thanks guys. Yeah the family and I have been remembering the good old days. I was also feeling guilty and wondering if it was too soon. But I feel better after reading articles that stated such feelings are common, and that it's better to do it sooner rather than to selfishly hang on and cause the dog prolonged and intensified suffering.
