tbh a while ago his wabs seemed to be worth something but after giving out shit reviews to witcher3 and dark souls 3 but at the same time "enjoying" mafia 3, halo wars 2, ghost recon wildlands and and and
his opinion did go down the drain for me.
Not saying that his first impressions are wrong in this case .
Played a bit on my Xbox One S on that 10 hour trial. Game is not bad, but it's not very good either. I think with fixes and DLC's expanding that game while adding more options could improve it.
I'll pick up PC version when it goes on sale or something. Not worth the full price they're asking.

Apparently in a reaction to all the bad press, EA's PR have moved the embargo back a day earlier (for footage/story progress streamers can show at least, I'm not sure if that includes reviews/scores). Maybe they are hoping that stuff from later on in the game will outweigh the clusterfuck of the opening few hours.

One of the streams shows him changing to Asian to match the player, so yes it would seem. Although I am not sure what happens if you customise both Ryders and try to make them different races from each other.
Well there is no proof of that. I doubt that theory is even remotely legit most of times.
