Again that shitty border around characters. Rolling Eyes

And what exactly did they enhance?
Animations still look stuttery.
Seems they only added support for widescreen and higher resolutions. Confused

I was part of the beta test, and the most obvious changes were: better performance, less buggy than the vanilla game, blazing fast loading screens, more intuitive UI, zoom, better mod support (with beta testers making a few mods too).
The original with mods is still fully playable and enjoyable, but this version remains better.
They had a FAQ in the beta forum where they listed the improvements. I imagine they'll make something similar for the final release, or already made a new list.

This was the list:

People don't have to worry about changing the story for the worst. Since Chris was in charge of the creative direction of the game, it all remains very true to the original. So true, in fact, that we were told they weren't planning to fix a "famous typo" from the original game. "The Brothel of Slating Intellectual Lusts" vs "The Brothel of Slaking Intellectual Lusts".

Like most change they've made, this can be disabled if you don't want it.
They added a scaling filter to the character models due to how pixelated the base models are. Then they added a black outline for people playing the game on high resolutions, to make them easier to see.

During the beta, I disabled the black outline, but kept the filter. It made the characters slightly blurry, but wasn't too bad. Should be possible to add an additional sharpening filter on top of it.

Here's a comparison (taken from the game) between original Nameless model and game-filtered model:

I think the reason they look so blurry at first is because of the background. The characters received the filter, the background didn't. It creates a contrast between the two, and we find the characters very blurry as a result.

Example:

They do look blurry to me. I got used to it after maybe 20 minutes and eventually liked the filter better than no filter, but I agree it makes the characters look blurry.

@Kanint:

It does sound alright, dammit. *shakes fist* Razz (not the blur part though, I'm anti-blur and pro-pixels when it comes to these delicate cases).

That said, I'll either go with the isodemo in the future, or simply wait for a mighty 85% off on Steam, I already did my part back in the BGEE days and received a betray in return, so now it's happy passive aggressive yarr time.

That's also what I would recommend. I pirated the original EE and bought them for 50% and 75% off. They're good products, but they're expensive as fuck at release.

Object highlighting, by itself, is worth having an EE. It's absence is a pain in the ass. Sound/track with better quality is a very nice thing too, since the original doesn't sound very well now. UI improvments are also rather welcomed. It looks like they treated the game pretty well.

If this edition will have a bug free wide screen mod, I may consider buying it, but not soon.
My last (prolly 8th) replay became a disappointment because of bugs in the mods.
And man, I have yet to start playing the sequel.

I can't get fullscreen to work with EE. Its full-screen is like a 1024x768 screen, a tiny window.

Removing full-screen and then resize it to my widescreen resolution does work, but looks ugly due to icons and whatnot showing in the taskbar.

What you mean by this is that it doesn't cover your screen fully (a small window inside your big monitor) or that its being rendered in fullscreen, but the resolution is very low?
If the resolution is very low, I'd make sure Gameworld Scaling is enabled.
If fullscreen isnt working for some reason, and if Alt+Enter doesn't make the game go fullscreen, I'd try "Compatibility Renderer" if you havent done it yet.

Oh wow, it gets 3,5 stars which for GOG is akin to 3/10 since even crappy games get 4/5 stars. Owning the original, I don't feel very eager to pay $20+ for this version though.

This version turns the old PT into high rez eye-candy, aaaand that's it.
20$+ for a game they didn't have to make in any way and with fixes made mostly by the community is unwarranted.A 5-10 range would have been legit, but that's too much.

Yeah I agree. I think they're trying to cash in on the decade-long idea that PS:T was an expensive and hard to find game because it didn't sell all that well and went for quite a bit on eBay as a result with no digital means to get it being available. As great as the game is, a little modding if your own makes it perfectly playable if you own the original like I do and asking $20 for a few extra benefits is quite a lot.
