I guess it's gonna be so that critics and general audience like it and fans might enjoy it but still pick for "wrong" decisions.

A hell of a lot "3/5" reviews. Which is not a bad thing, it's just not great. Still, better than many expected
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/mar/29/ghost-in-the-shell-review-scarlett-johansson-remake
Quote: | Johansson does cyberbattle in a westernised reimagining of the Japanese anime classic that proves watchable but doesn’t have the spirit of the original |

Quote: | So heavily derivative it doesn’t feel like anything new, and there’s little depth beneath that slick surface. But it’s solid and attractive, at least, with a retro appeal to its cyberpunk stylings. |
3/5
http://www.gamesradar.com/ghost-in-the-shell-review/
Quote: | If Ghost never feels fully original – you’ll constantly be reminded of other sci-fis besides 1995’s Ghost, and the final voiceover feels cribbed from Batman Begins – it benefits from feeling self-contained, and moves with much more zip than Sanders’ gloomy Snow White. This is a rare blockbuster that doesn’t sacrifice its standalone quality in a bid to build a franchise. Though if this does end up warranting a follow-up, we wouldn’t need any convincing to dive back into this world. |

Quote: | But whatever your take on the whitewashing controversy, Ghost in the Shell is no masterpiece. It’s another entertaining but slightly frustrating origin story with one eye on creating a franchise. There’s substance here, but it doesn’t match the film’s glorious style. |

its got vacant-faced johnasson in it, with shitloads of cgi. It was always going to be mediocre; for better or worse.. it was always going to 'do well' and was an incredibly 'safe' film to produce, but it was never going to be amazing.

"Large scale audiences" have no more meaning than critics. Individual reviews, be it from critics or not, is where it's at. You find someone with a similar taste to your own and you follow them.
And in the particular case of this film, I'll take individual reviews from fans of the franchise that are familiar with its themes over anyone else. General audiences loved the excrement that is Lucy, and I expect them to love this too.

Loved is not the right word because I didn't mean that after seeing it they proclaimed it one of the favorite movies. What I meant is it did spectacularly commercially, so they "loved" going to the cinema for it. General audiences more than rewarded the filmmakers behind it to the point even a "Lucy 2" was announced which doesn't even make sense. After becoming a USB does she become a Dropbox account in the next one?
Also the RT rating is 6.1, about the same as the 6.4 of IMDB.
Not that I was comparing the two in my previous post, I was merely pointing out that I already know audiences will respond well to this movie, even if it's excrement. Not that I believe it will be excrement either; Lucy is truly a very "special" case of a film (one of the worst I've ever seen), it's not that easy to "match" its brilliance

I'm on a phone so shortly. No, LSA have no meaning when it comes to a film being good or not. There are multiple factors that doesn't make them reliable. For example Marvel movies will always have higher scores when in reality they are pretty mediocre and repetitive. Transformers have rather high scores and make a lot of money being really poor movies.

So long as this movie breaks even on score I think that is decent enough. On IMDB for sure it will get 6+ or higher I bet!

These are all subjective criteria. Yondaime says it has served him very well looking at imdb reviews, who are we to say otherwise? It just means he has very mainstream taste and as such it largely aligns with the general public's. That's not "bad" (or good, or anything, it just is).
Mine often doesn't align so well I'm afraid. (Which again doesn't mean anything about me as a person).

I too believe that's a good sign, but many high rated movies suck, and some under 7 are great.
Also, fuck the critics and the masses. But I think Lucy was weird ok, and this will be ok. CGI looks bad tho...

I watched it.
I have watched the original many years back, but I recall almost nothing from that. So ..
First off, ScarJo is truly horrible in this. This girl used to know, how to act. Here she does some cringeworthy stuff with her mimicry.
The setting and presentation was okay. The action was okay. The themes were not explored at depth, in fact, it was very shallow. In 2017, when this topic has been already discussed a lot, this wasn't enough.
But it was good fun. Had more substance than usual Hollywood trash. I don't regret going, but I will forget this experience soon.

We might be getting an R-rated director's cut or something on home video.
The IMAX preview apparently showed blood but it's gone in the theatrical.
I read that Togusa's role has been cut down significantly.
The girl girl kiss from the trailers is gone, along with other small moments here and there.
And Lorne Balfe seems to have come on board last minute and he rescored some of Clint Mansell's stuff, including the Shelling sequence.

Still the highest rated anime adaptation ever made (because people are idiots when it comes to Speed Racer, or at least were, today it has a minor cult following).

It's doing nowhere near Lucy numbers.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-ghost-shell-grabs-18m-thursday-990318
Quote: | Paramount's Scarlett Johansson-starrer Ghost in the Shell roped in $1.8 million, while animated film The Boss Baby earned $1.5 million in Thursday previews.
Ghost in the Shell is tracking for a domestic debut in the mid-$20-million range as it opens in 3,440 sites. It won't do the stellar numbers that Johansson's Lucy earned in 2014 when it took in $2.8 million in previews on its way to a $43.9 million domestic debut. Paramount is offering up 10 Cloverfield Lane as a comp, which earned $1.8 million Thursday for a $24.7 million opening weekend. |
It'll open about the same as 10 Cloverfield Lane which ended its theatrical run with $110M... but $110M is also the budget of this film so if it does just that then it's not good at all.
Granted 10CL wasn't shown in China where this film will be shown, and we can also expect this film to do well in Japan because of the anime, but there are early signs that it could fail to make (any serious) profit.
edit: RT at 45% and dropping.

They CGI'd out the blood from the blood packs they used during filming
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=13414894&postcount=1199
Filming:
Bottom: footage from earlier trailer and also used in the IMAX preview, Top: later trailer and final film
Also, these shots are not in the film, they used alternate angles that don't show the exploding impact from the squibs and blood packs.
(Top: Exploded squib during filming, Bottom: Squib/CGI combo meant for the final film, before it was cut)
Since even the girl girl kiss is missing, Paramount must have tried to go ultra-PG-13. Let's hope for a director's cut, since it's clear the director filmed all the violence on set, it was taken out later!

Sounds like those who see this in the theaters gets the iTard pus*y version. Gawd... its 2017 and now we can't have basic blood and real minor gore? It used to be no nudity was the norm but violence == ok: now its none of both here unless you watch at home? Seems like actual movie goers are getting less but wait for the screener/dvd/bluray and you get dat good stuff ?

All I want is an animated GitS 3 by Oshii, I've been waiting for years and was hoping he would announce he was inspired by visiting the set of the live action film, but the dude walks his dog and plays Fallout 4 instead
