If you're the kind of user who asks whether or not he can put 10 HDDs in his PC and draw comical setups and cannot articulate his ideas problably,
to eventually settle for a single-drive NAS solution and then be concerned only about guarantees and drive lifespans...
...GOOD LUCK to you. From the bottom of my dark, black, rotten heart. |

Funny. The 3Tb had way worse failure rates than all the other models. May aswell have chosen a different manufacturer in this case... |
Had to RMA mine twice, third one is holding up longer it seems.

I meant the 52 pieces of those.
You have them in use at work yes, not at home?
Enthoo Evolv ATX TG // Asus Prime x370 // Ryzen 1700 // Gainward GTX 1080 // 16GB DDR4-3200

I fiddle with 5-6 PB data at work.
At home only those HDD-s.

@paxsali nice posts and on point.
Agree, the 3tb drives were reported to be much less reliable than 2tb counterparts. Given I can't find hitachi drives where I live anymore I prefer Western Digital, this means arguing with Seagate faggots frequently but go find me any study where Seagate drives come off more reliable.

For me it was just bad luck (user stupidity), had the 2tb in mind to buy that day (which was the one I 'researched' about), but sold out... needed a replacement asap so I uttered the words: "Which one do you have in stock?". Still regretting that to this day.
Then again, it's a good lesson to have the HD you never read upon but bought anyway being the one that you had so many problems with.

I remember when i 2 years ago built Mini ITX machine (AMD APU setup), mobo had 4x Sata onboard, put 4x4TB WD reds in there and used lacie USB3->Sata connector to SSD where i installed OpenMediaVault, has ran 2 years without any problems (not a single reboot has needed). Very good open source NAS software.

Not to mention your power usage will be far more than needed, and your drives will die much faster too. |
This entire paragraph is a lie. Pls ignore it. |
Shut the hell up if that's your response. Having several smaller drives constantly powering up and down affects their health and disabling the power saving mode makes them draw a lot more power than a few large drives. As I said, I have owned many drives for years and know the draw backs all too well, mr Know-It-all.
