So you know I moved to my apartment about 6 months ago and the front door fucking sucks.
I live on the top (3rd) floor and there are only 4 flats on my floor including mine and the noise is louder coming inside rather than on the stairway (hallway). But that is enough to infuriate me with noise. Especially when they party, Most of the noise is not coming through the walls but through their doors, to the hallway and back through my door echoing.

The door is gerda(polish door brand. They do very good locks), reinforced for security blablabla. But they should be marketed as speaker if You ask me(wireless even!).
if I would knew sooner they are so cheap and shitty, I would most definitely invested and got new door and frame. Now after whole apartment is finished there is no way I am replacing them and I don't feel like installing a second door (people do that here).

So what are the options? I can replace all gaskets? And cover with some material?
Upholstering door is a known thing here but it always look so shitty with buttons and crap on the door from the inside but maybe there is better, modern way to do it?

edit: in Polish door is "drzwi". We only have plural word for door... so doors. Even if we talk about one Door... don't even ask Laughing

there is some stuff like filters you can put along the door. dunno the name in english -i didn't even knew the name in spanish- I asked a contructor for "shit to avoid the fucking noise". had the same problem. but some doors are real shitty and nothing will work, but a change of it.

Weatherstripping a door helps, but if it's a hollow door there will still be a lot of noise and that can only be remedied by: Replacing it with a better one, put sound absorbing material on it or installing a second door.

Ghetto/cheap method could be: installing sound absorbing drapes in front of the door. Noisy party: close the drapes *poof* door and *poof* most of the noise

I thought so... But I don't have money for second door or to replace it.
I can try some of the noise absorption materials... I should probably find a professional who does that too Laughing It's still 1/10th cost of the new door

I recommend what I use...

Does the job just grand.

Make sure you get plenty bleach in beforehand, as this is the bit I really hate, cleaning up, but worth it. Set aside, at least a couple of days, to get the job done proper.

Yea, listen to what people say in this thread.
You have to replace the door with the whole frame, not just the doorpane itself.

Replace the frame + door
Sound proof it more.

Wait a while
Realize it's not helping.
The vibrations are attacking the door and the walls
The sound is still there but just quieter.

Save more for an even better door and a better frame
Rinse and repeat

Realize it's a flaw of apartment buildings and no matter how awesome your door is it won't stop all the noise. You need to build a soundproof gate. A second door. But even then if the walls are affected it'll still be there. The noise.

Best bet talk to them if the noise continues after 10pm? If they don't turn it down call the cops.

Universal remote, lower the volume on their devices or turn them off. Razz
(Doesn't work on the actual neighbors though, those have to be turned off - or on. - via other means.)

Have Gerda door too. Was installed more than 10 years ago. But we went for soundproofed model.

Okay, now that the dust has settled in this thread, how about some half assed irresponsible advice?

If the door itself is even the problem, first one should probably make sure the door is somewhat "sealed". Then apply constrained layer damping to the door.

This is a technique some DIY speaker builder like to use, when they want to reduce noise coming out of a box through the panels instead of just the driver.
The base layer would be your door, the constraining layer some stiff wood, perhaps HDF? For the damping layer, these audio people most often use Bitumen.

Given this much information you are most likely not able to maximize damping or get this to work at all, given the lack of details. You're welcome Laughing
