Just played a few rounds in coop yesterday.
Is this so dumbed down that there are now buyable items in it?! Or can you only buy items in modes when playing against other people?

No buyable items, instead you choose talents when leveling up. Also no last hitting. HotS is all about grouping at the right times, taking objectives as a team, and skill in teamfights.
Wasn't the game supposed to be into it's final version today?. Blizzard's site and DL site still says BETA!

What a nasty fucking game. Is fun enough to play a few games, but you own absolutely 0 characters by default, and have to either buy them or gain from stuff like collectors editions or something. This is truly a desperate game for Blizzard.
You need to do quests to get gold, for which you can buy heroes. By the time you level up to play "ranked", you'll have enough gold to buy the heroes you need to play.
This might have changed since I last played, but after the tutorial you usually had enough gold to buy at least one hero.
(Players with D3 on their account generally also get another character for free)
After that, the game throws a ton of gold at you for a while, then it slows down a little.

If you play HotS from April 25, following the launch of the 2.0 update, you will be granted 100 Gems for absolutely free. You can then use those Gems to purchase one of the new Mega Bundles, bagging yourself 20 heroes straight away.
