Ordered my 1080 Ti now.

Decided to get a good ocd model so I don't have to do anything Razz
Got the Zotac 1080 Ti Amp Extreme.

Now to wait for delivery -> currently it's 'unknown'. It seems that the shops here in Austria cannot get it yet. (not sure if this is yet released anywhere, as it was 'preorder' in E-Tec (my neighborhood store) at least.)

Congrats!

I read very good things about the Zotac Extreme Editions for the 1070 and normal 1080.

Needed to send my waterblock to EK since it had leaking o-ring, decided to replace Titan XP block with the new sexy 1080Ti block, anyway stock cooler is back on and shunt mod is removed (liquid metal on shunt resistors to get rid of power limit), i wanted to kill some time and try find good settings on OC / thermals, and the most important is the noise level (this thing is so fucking loud when you have used to watercooled PC), anyway now for the fun part.

Anyone who has pascal card or something else should try the Afterburner voltage / clock curve editor. Have managed to do some impressive downvolting on my 1080TI. First of all card stock load voltage is about 1.062V when i overclock it around 2100mhz levels (on stock cooler you need to run this setting with 100% fan speed with cheeks flapping and headphones on, and without shunt mod you are hitting power limit all the time, which results in fluctuations in clock speed, 2060-2100).

I decided to go for 2025mhz (ish), yet again pascal boost derp 3.0 maxes the voltage 1.062V, card is hot and noisy (need to run 75% fan speed which is somewhat tolerable, and GPU reaches nearly 80C in gaming), also hits power limit all the time (120%).

Next i did custom voltage curve on the editor, set 2025mhz and target of 0.975V (after lots of trial and error i found this is the lowest my card goes with this clock), card is rock solid stable in superposition benchmark loop (which is very picky about clocks and crashes immediately if OC is not stable), card is around 97% power with over 20% power limit to spare and there was like over 10C drop in temperatures (does not go over 70C).

Results may vary how good silicon lottery you have, but daymn, this runs so good way below its stock voltage, cant wait to play with this when i get new waterblock (tried 2050mhz with 1.0V and it seemed to be stable).

Now to get enough cash from the ATMs. I think my daily limit is set lower than the purchase amount Razz Will have to go home first to change the card settings Razz

GDDR6 info.
http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/sk_hynix_launches_fastest_8gb_graphics_dram_(gddr6).html

Quote:

SK Hynix introduced the world’s fastest 2Znm 8Gb(Gigabit) GDDR6(Graphics DDR6) DRAM. The product operates with an I/O data rate of 16Gbps(Gigabits per second) per pin, which is the industry’s fastest. With a forthcoming high-end graphics card of 384-bit I/Os, this DRAM processes up to 768GB(Gigabytes) of graphics data per second.

SK Hynix has been planning to mass produce the product for a client to release high-end graphics card by early 2018 equipped with high performance GDDR6 DRAMs.

GDDR is specialized DRAM for processing an extensive amount of graphics data quickly according to what graphics cards command in PCs, workstations, video players and high performance gaming machines. Especially, GDDR6 is a next generation graphics solution under development of standards at JEDEC, which runs twice as fast as GDDR5 having 10% lower operation voltage. As a result, it is expected to speedily substitute for GDDR5 and GDDR5X. SK Hynix has been collaborating with a core graphics chipset client to timely mass produce the GDDR6 for the upcoming market demands.

“With the introduction of this industry’s fastest GDDR6, SK Hynix will actively respond to high quality, high performance graphics memory solutions market” said senior vice president Jonghoon Oh, the Head of DRAM Product Development Division. “The Company would help our clients enhance their performance of high-end graphics cards” he added.

GDDR6 is regarded as one of necessary memory solutions in growing industries such as AI(Artificial Intelligence), VR(Virtual Reality), self-driving cars, and high-definition displays over 4K to support their visualization. According to Gartner, average graphics DRAM density in graphics cards is to be 2.2GB this year and 4.1GB in 2021 with CAGR of 17%.

Got my card today (Zotac 1080 Ti Amp Extreme) -> crashes on every game.

I have to underclock it severely to make it stable at all...
Any clues? :I

PSU too weak? got some 750W BeQuiet, (some ~150-200€ one)

I guess I'll try it today on my other machine, however the PSU in that is on the border of being capable.

Sure I know.

However I cannot go to the store and claim I tried it with 2 different 'sufficient' powers if one is 500W while the card 'requires' 600W.

I know they overshoot the requirements so that they work with the low efficiency powers also.

And how are THEY going to know that one was 500W? Very Happy

Return the card. Lots of the 1080 TI cards are getting to hot of different manufacturers. Got one of INNO 3d which i had to downclock in some games and a Gigabyte Aorus oc edition as well. Tomorrow i'm getting a msi armor oc, i'm curious how it handles its temperatures.

Edit: limiting the power here with 1% also stops the freezing of the Inno3d card instead of downclocking. Can't check it with the Aorus as i don't have it anymore.

I tried also limiting / boosting the power -> if I turned the power down -> it froze immediately. As in I got to the menu of a game and it froze, boosting it made it run some game for ~20-25 minutes.

And some games don't seem to make it crash at all (Total War Warhammer for example, while it's at 100% utilization etc.)

Hopefully I'll get to return it today, stuck at work overtime for the whole week and the shop closes pretty much when I get home normally.

That's too bad. I hope you managed to return it yesterday. I got my MSI armor card today and it's the best i've tested till now. Out of the box clocked at 1900+ on the core and stable 2050 when oc'ing a bit without overvolting. And the cheapest one as well, it was 75-100 euros less then the other cards.

Nope, still not Smile Will be until Tuesday probably. The shop would be open until 17:00 today, but I have to stay at work at least until 15:30 -> 1 hour to get home -> would have to manage to go pickup the card from home + back to store in 30 minutes -> it's pretty much exactly how long it takes if there happens to be a bus at the stops whenever I get there Razz

But I did extra tests yesterday - I rebuilt the whole machine practically and switched cards around etc...
I already thought it works -> It worked for a very long time, until the last 'round' in Player Unknown's Battleground (20-30 minutes?)

And then it crashed. Which.. is good. As to use the card in a different slot -> I had to remove all HD racks, all 3.5" harddrives were just stacked in the 5.1/4" rack, and this would have been quite bad over longer period.

Now only thing I could try anymore is to move my other machine's innards to the current case and try again, but I don't think I want to go through the effort Razz (Old case is way too small for this card - next case I buy is going to be a fucking 2x2m cube, my current extremely modular one is still way too cramped)

Finally returned it yesterday.
Went totally fine, but I'll have to wait for the replacement as they have to order new one.

They're willing to only give back the same model, which is fine by me, at least it will tell me if there's an issue in my power/ mobo. Or that I'm just extremely unlucky and get broken one again Smile

Just got my 1080 also, I thought I would test it on a second game ( not had much time to game right now ) as I saw power draw was low, gpu use is fine works, clocks up in the 2000's etc but It just felt like the card was not working lol Smile

I ran gta5 and seems the game can't handle the sheer power and abililty the 10 series has. Everything maxed out the works all settings as much as I can go and the thing still only hits 60% usage at 1440p. power draw max was 67% lol, is that normal :O Both 8 pins are in this ftw I just expected to see more draw.

What about CPU usage? Maybe a CPU bottleneck, though I doubt it. Maybe in-game vsync setting at half? Or its just GTAV beeing GTAV and as long as it runs smooth, its all good.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

So, that the 1080 still has much unused power at that resolution and game it might be faulty?

What cpu do you have?
Its cpu/ram that bottlenecks you, or you have vsync enadbled somehow.

Finally decided to get the Strix Oc instead cause it was stock in store.

I have to say I am impressed and I just ran my first Firestrike Bench.

Default settings 1440P Res.

Overclock is 2027 on Gpu and 5655 on Memory.

I'm sure I can squeeze a bit more out of it. Smile

When I then actually get the card -> I go play some games which run on potatoes Razz (I usually get a fever to play paradox games (which are very light GPU wise)
