Another adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Mist', this time a 10 episode TV series on Spike.

Not sure if it's a mini-series or a potentially ongoing thing. I don't really see the point since the film was already great. Maybe it will be worth watching.

Here is the press release.

SPIKE TV GREENLIGHTS NEW ORIGINAL SERIES “THE MIST”

Scripted Series From TWC-Dimension Television Based On Classic Stephen King Novella

The 10-Episode Series Goes Into Production This Summer And Debut in 2017

New York, NY, April 14, 2016 – Spike has greenlit a new original scripted series, “The Mist” from TWC-Dimension Television (TV) based on the classic Stephen King novella. The network has ordered 10 one-hour episodes and will into go production this summer and debut in 2017. The announcement was made today by Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike TV.

“The Mist” tells a harrowing story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and creates immense havoc.

In February, Spike ordered a production pilot for “The Mist.” Upon hearing the series pitch and reading the script, the network has decided to go straight to series.

“From the brilliant mind of Stephen King and the incredible production team at TWC-Dimension TV, ‘The Mist’ will take audiences on a thrilling ride through a small town grappling with a mysterious and shocking horror,” said Levy.

“Christian and the entire team at TWC-Dimension TV have crafted the framework for a compelling and distinctive series that will resonate with Spike’s expanding audience,” said Levy.

“We have been fortunate to produce and distribute two of Stephen King’s films, 1408 and THE MIST, and are pleased to continue that relationship by making THE MIST into a TV series,” said Bob Weinstein, Co-Chariman The Weinstein Company. “We’ve had an incredible experience developing the series with Christian, Sharon and her team and are eager to make this series a signature show for Spike.”

Christian Torpe serves as the Executive Producer for Spike’s “The Mist.” Torpe created the successful show RITA in Denmark, now finishing its fourth season, and has developed programming for both Showtime and AMC.

Megan Spanjian, EVP of Scripted TV, was instrumental in finding and bringing Torpe to the table and will oversee the project for TWC-Dimension TV along with Matthew Signer, EVP of Production and Creative Affairs, and Keith Levine, SVP of Production and Development. Torpe is repped by ICM and Artists in Residence.

Levy, Ted Gold, Senior Vice President, Scripted Original Series, and Lauren Ruggiero, Senior Director, Scripted Programming will oversee the project.

The movie was incredible..

I found an old article which calls the series "an original story", meaning it won't be an adaptation with the same characters (but surely the same premise).

Quote:
The series will tell an original story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town but contains limitless havoc. From psychological terrors to otherworldly creatures, the mist causes the town residents’ darkest demons to appear forcing them to battle the supernatural event and, more importantly, each other.

The showrunner has only written Danish stuff so far: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1311535/ which I have no idea how good they are but he has plenty of experience.

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

It could be interesting, Spike TV though scares me more than the Mist itself xD
(Not to mention the fact that the movie's ending was flawless, not sure we really need to ruin that moment) Very Happy

would certainly be super interesting if they take a slower approach, and look at the military side, how it happened, and expand the lore a bit...

We'll get 9 episodes of the crazy religious lady ranting in the store and 1 with the ending.

No! One of the best things with King's original story is/was that there is no explanation.
I don't need anyone trying to explain. The mystery is what makes it so good.

i think theres room for both.. you can still keep the mystery of WHAT the military was trying to do, and what they opened and where it lead, but still have the crisis start at the base, possibly from the point of view of some random soldier experiencing events before it happened, with zero knowledge of the motivations or understanding of whats happening.

i, too, appreciate the value of mystery and imperfect knowledge of the key event, but id still like to at least see something more of the town and the event other than just the supermarket and shitloads of mist... and the military is such an important and interesting aspect i think is worth exploring.. again, from an imperfect knowledge point of view.

I have no idea what that was, but it wasn't Stephen King's The Mist.

The biggest issue for this tv series, is that the movie was a great adaptation.
You can't beat Darabont when it comes to adapting King's work.

They even brought back the hollywoodian horns for the occasion!
Looks even more like a tripe than I expected, as if the mist had swallowed all the movie's magic and sense of mystery as well, leaving only cheap melodrama :<

Turn a novela and great movie adaptation to at least 3 seasons long series. Yeah that will definitely turn up good. I'm with ixi - 5 minutes of horror 40 minutes of small town melodrama. People will stay in that town without food and water for 3 months until it's finally cancelled. Embarassed

I mean I've never seen the show, it never appealed, but from what I've heard it's more popular than Christmas.

After the mist descended it got a bit better but it's still pretty mediocre.. mediocre acting(with rare exceptions) & writing, the pace (ep02-03) is uneven..characters are not interesting.

It's very Under-the-Dome-ish but at least it seems to be more entertaining. It could be an Okeish show for a background "noise" when you are actually doing some other stuff and alt-tab back and forth once you hear something interesting is happening Laughing

Maybe it gets better..who knows

I'll keep "watching" it just to see what they will come up with story-wise.

Judging by the first episode, absolute piece of trash, even worse than I expected, sadly. Writing is just abysmal and acting mediocre at best. Story seems like it's going to be 90% soap opera crap and 10% actual mist/monster related.
