I also don't get why squad leader isn't a class like RO2
|
To not force the SL loadout on people AND make more SL slots available in general. Big issue in RO2/RS was having a team filled with derps in Squadleader positions, a good TL could still be somewhat effective but compared to a team were this wasn´t the case, you were crippled.
Since SL doesn´t have smokes per loadout anymore, you really need a good balance of classes in your squad to be effective to the max and trough the addition of the Radioman class, TL´s aren´t meant to sit back the whole match like it was implied in RO2/RS (good ones still ran forward to deploy a wall of smoke when needed).
Really dig the game but its soooo full of glitches, bugs and whatnot that you seriously have to ask what they were doing all the time until now. Granted, lots of new weapons and flyable choppers but theres a lot of old animation still used aswell and since they use an ancient, modded up build of UE3, i think they should be further ahead than they are now.

The UI is really unappealing but what bothers me the most is the movement. There is no fluidity in movement, you constantly get stuck in the smallest objects possible, it's quite annoying for a game where you die in one hit.

There is bullet penetration, that's cool.
The game has a ton of problems but I do like it. It has one of the most cool sniping systems I've seen in shooters lately, a ton of realistic features yet isn't a simulator and can be taken seriously as a game or not. Wish there was more on the animations/tech side of things, but I can live with that.

It's really really rough, even for a beta (then again we're talking about the Tripwire men), but the core gameplay is -as expected- good indeed, which is what matters the most.
As Red Orchestra-ish as you can get, with all that entails in terms of vintage-ness and clunkiness (in terms of visuals also), but satisfying especially if played with a team that can showcase a minimum of coordination, although it's not easy to find it in a beta where everyone's Leeroy Jenkinsing around, me included xD
The performance is pretty inconsistent here in old rig land (with the CPU being taxed much more than the GPU), including the stuttering in Hue City, lag when facing vegetation, you name it. The weapon sounds aren't as good as RO2's in my opinion, and perhaps the game is a bit too fast-paced at the moment, but it's a beta™, so *fingers crossed*

45:40 to 46:30 - definitely my most insane moment in the hundred or so hours of beta - complete with the Ace Ventura "parking" to top it all off!
Sorry couldn't edit it down, too lazy as it was streamed via GeForce. Just skip to the time mentioned! |
Haha! That parking really was the most fitting way to conclude the glorious boop-based attack

The performance is fucked up. I noticed some visual improvements but the loss in fps since the last beta is quite huge.

With the release so soon, I'm not sure they're gonna fix all the issues that ixi mentioned. Why rushing it out?

Loving it! Great FPS everything on ultra 1440p 60FPS +. It has some bugs but nothing too bad, if you liked previous RO games you will love this one.

After a short test it feels laggy as fuck. In general feels just like some Red Orchestra 2 mod. BETA is full of bugs eg. barely any settings can be saved etc...
Voice acting is poor but this might turn out to be a solid game if they manage to iron the issues in right time.
No buy - for now.

Im not noticing that lag you are talking about. It feels pretty smooth to me. The voice is crap though, Im positively sure they will fix that right away. RO2 also had issues when it was released so dont expect this game to have less issues at release.
The core elements are awesome, the only thing that is missing is more ground vehicles and more 60s - 70s music to get the feel right.

Compared to the original Rising Storm, which had an awesome original score, the score in this one is more or less non-existent if the beta is anything to go by. It seems like they blew their entire music budget on the main menu song. Shame.
And yea, it'd be cool if some light vehicles would have been added, but at this point it's far too late to ever balance for any of that.
