That's what it was supposed to be - taking an existing IP and using whatever gametype that was doing well at the time to try and get some of that lovely profit.
Oddly enough, I think the game could have worked - if they didn't make Lara out to be some sort of invincible killer (unless she got shot a few times - ignoring the hole in her side...), and didn't insult the player's intelligence by making the 'tomb' puzzles a lot more interesting.
Maybe a morality stress level would have been interesting - killing people made it go up until she became a nervous wreck. Could have added a non- lethal option to every situation.
Instead they literally made her Drake with tits.
Well it seems they sold quite well regardless which is a shame. The previous three games were vastly superior as actual Tomb Raider games. I won't say Uncharted doesn't have a place in the world - I do quite enjoy them because they're good games but we already have Uncharted. Why gut Tomb Raider to be something it's not when there's no real games that actually ARE like Tomb Raider around anymore?
They're basically killing off a genre in favour of another genre which already has great games. Oh I know, it's trying to make money off the success of someone else but fuck that.
So, I just finished this. Played through it for like a week, got almost everything there was to get, still have a few things to collect and unlock.
I have to say, they actually listened to the feedback for the first game, or at least I get the impression they did because this is so much better than the first one, as a game, but even more as a Tomb Raider game. This is a proper Tomb Raider game.
They changed the focus of the game, much more about exploring now, finding cool looking locations, whether they're the hidden ruins of an ancient civilization or mountain passes or even caves (there's some really nice ones), and it's much less about combat which happens when it makes sense to. The platforming is still very simplistic, but I don't mind it as much since they add more tools to the mix and it feels pretty involved. They even brought back small little things like the hidden input combo that would trigger the dive when jumping into water (instantly tried this one when I read the challenge that requires it and it just worked!). The puzzles are still pretty simple too, but they are way more varied even though they're mostly phisics-based. Some of them are pretty interesting though.
Full on swimming is something that they still seem to be scared of commiting to, but they did bring it back compared to the previous game. Hope the next one will have proper underwater exploring and even puzzles that involve that.
Last weekend was spent almost entirely playing this. That's also when I started playing it properly so it got me pretty hooked... so hooked that I don't think this happened with a game in a long time for me. I actually really loved this.
Also, what do I think about the story? Perfectly fine, this doesn't need any story more complex than this. It's enough for a Tomb Raider game. It would be nice to have something that involves Lara going around the world more in the next one though, like in the old games.

"The main difference is that with the Xbox One X version, it’s the first time they were able to deliver a true native 4K signal. For that reason it’s the “highest fidelity version” among all."
It runs at 30 FPS in 4K checkerboard, while he Native 4K mode offers that true and pure 4K signal.
On top of that, the High Frame Rate mode runs at 60 FPS across “most of the game.” There are “a few places where it will dip.” Briggs mentioned that the “vast majority” of the game runs at 60 FPS. While he could not provide a specific assessment, he did confirm that 90% is a “safe estimate.”
oh wait i get it, lol it just clicked as i was closing the page.. you're just fucking excited about all the new porn thats going to come out you dirty fuckers
Just finished this. Damn that was an anti climactic ending. That's where i seriously enjoy many japanese stories more, because they don't end i in the "disaster averted at the last second" like all damn american movies and too many aaa games.
Really silly post credits scene. "not yet" so damn typical. For absolutely no reason other than for them to rip their hair out later when she starts to stir up trouble for them directly.
It's much better to just install Windows on your Mac using Bootcamp and play there, rather than rely on the terrible OpenGL drivers that Apple provides.

This port doesn't use OpenGL but Metal, runs great here.
Although I didn't try the Windows version, might run even better.
Yep, executable calls /System/Library/Frameworks/Metal.framework/Versions/A/Metal (amongst other metal strings)
You wouldn't be surprised it's running fine since I'm on the base iMac Pro (Radeon Vega 56), even pushed the resolution to > 1440p and still get 60 fps but probably not in the "hubs" though.
I thought the post processing was really nice in this game and the picture quite clear even if not in 5K (framerate is terrible in 5K though).
