Cops on normal day to day duties don't carry guns in London,
I can't say for other cities in the UK but there are specialist firearms officers on patrol in cars all across the city that can answer most incidents within minutes if needed.
The last time the police were surveyed here the vast majority didn't want guns, they're the ones on the frontline and you've gotta respect their opinions.

Well if you were a criminal you wouldn't rob a bank with a knife when there are guardsd with guns ready to kill you. They'd need to at least have a level playing field of some kind. It definiately won't deter tham from robbing a bank though.

yeah..when that policewoman got shot in bradford round the corner from sYn and I, it wasn't long before there were cops armed with machine guns patrolling the street outside our house.

close to wear i live some people were murdered and at the time i was playing fable, i heard the shots but i didnt know they were shots so i kept on playing. that evening it was massively crowded with cops and media. it is about 50 meter from our house |

well, havent been in trouble for a while...exwife kinda straightened me out.

You ask why cops dont carry guns... its simple.. why should they??????
If its not broke then dont fix it... for example i think our country had 7 firearm murders last year.. and the police dont carry guns.. and if you did the per capita.. the english numbers are very very low too..
You could arm every cop in america with a bazooka and it wouldnt change the crime rate at all.. police having guns simply encourage other people to have guns..
Im all with people having rifles and shit for hunting.. good on them.. but there is NO reason on earth to have a handgun.. a handgun is a fucking idiotic thing.. and thankfully i have never ever seen one in this country.....
Unless your dealing daily with shootouts and shit as a cop.. there is no reason to have a gun.

I think this needs clearing up a little.
I've lived in the UK all my life and lived in many major cities.
I've never seen anyone holding a gun, just a replica once in Reading on the Oxford Road, I suspect if a copper pointed the real thing at him he'd fill his pants.
The bottom line is that just a little anti-social gun crime in just a few major cities is better than almost everone feeling they need too carry a gun like you folks in the US.
You see many ill educated and loutish people are pretty simple folk, who react and don't think about their actions. The last thing we need is for them to have the right too bare arms.
Simple argument isn't it.
I love America, especially the lower West Coast. Guns never fixed any problems, they just lulled all you folks on your side of the pond into a very dangerous and false sense of security.

the only time i ve seen policemen carry weapons in the uk was at the manchester airport.
two officers were on patrol carrying mp5s.
the death rates are definitely lowered by the british approach to weapons, but crimes still happen alot. the tesco store my gf worked in got robbed every month, the offenders always carried a knife and no firearms, and they were always black.
i wouldnt say the fact that policemen are keeping their eyes on african people is really racist,
its a matter of statistics, the chances of a black guy being an offender are greater than for some white guy, so in the end its just more effective checking african males.
of course this isnt morally right, but when it comes to crimes you better play safe first and then think of political correctness.

yea that list give a compeletely wrong impression right away, i mean cmon, the uk ranked higher than the us?
maybe the uk has stricter laws on smaller stuff, that you can do in the us without comitting a crime (for example owning guns etc.)

You can't own a gun everywhere, and there are lots of laws to follow regarding gun ownership, it just depends on WHERE you live.

Yes but the fact that the only guns u can have here are shotguns with licenses or hunting rifles with licenses shows there's at least a stricter rule than in SOME places in the US. Since its going by the whole population this has to be brought into the equation. If its say 200 people from every state and 10 of those allow guns then that could really be 2000 people already.
