On a more serious note, that's a positive approach at least.
I'm as skeptical as you can get (as per usual with them video-game flicks  ) but I hope they can come up with something genuine-ish that resembles the original. One thing is for sure though, with Bay's Platinum Dunes explosions won't be missing

People seem to like John Cena in movies but for me he always looks like John Cena pretends to be rather than be the character.

Cena has the muscles and IMHO also the charisma needed to play the Duke.
But if you have a shitty director, then nothing helps really.
Just look at Rian Fuckson.

Good luck to him, personally think it's a very difficult character to bring to life (i don't mind cena, but i think will take a miracle to make this good). If i were him i would be taking a lot of notes from Evil Dead 1&2 (not necessarily the tv series as they made the character more of a bone head there).

A “Duke Nukem” movie is in the works with Gearbox Software teaming with “Assassin’s Creed” producer Jean-Julien Baronnet to adapt the video game into a feature film, Variety has learned exclusively.
Gearbox had been working on “Duke Nukem” with Paramount Studios and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, with John Cena rumored as a possible star earlier this year. Paramount, however, is no longer involved in the project.

Yup. Reminder that the upcoming Doom movie - which is a far more popular video game franchise (one of the best known of all time actually), and which sports a recent installment that was amazingly received, and another highly anticipated on its way which they can use to cross-promote the film for example - is... a straight to video flick.
There's no reason to trust Duke with a larger budget than Doom.
