http://www.polygon.com/2016/6/20/11982568/resident-evil-2-remake-director-hideki-kamiya-capcom

Kamiya says he knows who is directing RE2make and from his comments it's likely that person is "Kazunori Kadoi".

He is another old-timer although from the classic games he only worked on RE1. http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,78879/

He is credited for System Plan / Camera Works on RE1 (, Stage Plan credit but only on the CVX re-release) and as a designer on RE5, 6, REv2.

After RE7 is released they'll talk about it. All the available info is in this page already.

Resident Evil 2 Remake Door Opened By Resident Evil 7
Quote:
With how surprising Resident Evil 7 turned out to be during its reveal, it quickly muted all talk of Resident Evil 2 Remake that dominated headlines for a good part of the year. In a way, that has turned out to be good news.

It means that fans can no longer accuse Capcom of relying solely on remakes to milk as much cash as possible from a stagnant franchise, though they weren’t exactly wrong with that sentiment.

The incorporation of VR for the latest survival horror sequel proves that Resident Evil is moving forward with developments in the gaming industry. And rather than keeping silent after the first reveal, Capcom has been gradually peeling back the layers on RE7 via intermittent demo releases.

In spite of all the buzz surrounding the new game, there’s no reason to cast the RE2 remake aside as just another money-grab attempt from the Japanese developer. Instead of refurbishing the 1998 classic with newer mechanics and treating it to a HD veneer, Capcom has said that it’s going to redevelop the game from the ground up.

According to a new rumor, the release of RE7 early next year would be accompanied by a fresh reveal for the remake of RE2. It seems that Capcom could take the demo release route in teasing the game, and some believe that a new teaser trailer would also be in tow.

Assholes don't tell the source for that rumour though.

Resident Evil 2 Remake: Original Voice Actors Being Replaced
Quote:
The original voices of Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong will not be returning for the Resident Evil 2 remake.

According to Claire actress Alyson Court (as reported by PCGamesN), Capcom has chosen to use non-union actors to voice the game's protagonists. Following a fan campaign for her return, she was contacted about reprising the role, but the company tasked with providing voiceover for the game in the US reportedly chose to take a different approach.

“I would have done it," Court explained in a YouTube video, "because I know you guys wanted me to, and I really appreciate your support. I appreciate the outrage you had towards Capcom and everybody involved. But unfortunately, as far as I know they chose to go non-union with the voice performances.”

Resident Evil official social media channels all change their logo to a tease
Quote:
The official Resident Evil Twitter, Facebook, etc, are all just now changing the official profile picture/logo of the social feeds to a brand new logo.

It's a new logo, but it's an updated look of the logo the series had during its first three entries, just more worn and torn, and many people will recognize it from this specifically:

Regardless, it's definitely some fuel to the fire for people suspecting we may get Resident Evil 2 news soon (which is being fueled as RE2's 20th anniversary is this January 21st, in 8 days from now). What does ResetEra think? Just finally updating the logo from the 20th anniversary series thing they've had as we go into 2018, or a teaser for what might be coming up soon?

Don't make it nu-RE please, keep that stuff for RE7 and leave the poor RE2 alone

Very Happy Who could have imagined back in 2015 that RE7 would have turned into such a refreshingly positive surprise...I had lost all hope after the abysmal RE6, but thankfully things took an alternative and very effective survival-horror direction.

Now I almost want the RE2make to embrace the first person perspective as well, it could definitely work and grant an amazing sense of immersion (whilst maintaining all the classic features, inventory and puzzles of course). It's always a mystery with Capcom though, going back to a pseudo-Hollywoodian Gears of Evil could still be in the scary realm of possibility. Fingers crossed!

@ixigia
Yup, i heard and read very good things about RE7 before.
And yesterday i started playing it myself and can confirm it myself. Very Happy

I don't know how it will be later in the game, but for now the atmosphere is great. Feels more like a first person version of RE1, instead of you running around again like a cowadoodie.

Yeah RE7 was fantastic and i hope they continue the trend, it's a real shame it only sold about half of what 5 and 6 sold by now RE fans are totally retarded it seems.

7 was fucking amazing except for terribe, very bad ship part. Even caves after this were good in comparison. It really felt like 1,2,3 in terms of puzzles. I still would prefer normal zombies and stuff instead of 2 enemy types

Unfair to compare RE7's sales after a year to the lifetime sales of RE5 and 6 which have been out for many more years. Here is a better comparison..

A year after RE6's release it had sold 5.2M: http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/10/31/resident-evil-5-becomes-capcoms-best-seller
And as you said RE7 sold 4+ M.

So, did RE6 sell more in a year? Yes. Around 30% more to be exact.

Double as much (aka 100% more)? No. That figure includes sales, bundles and re-releases over many years.

It's digusting that RE6 sold so many copies.

And i'm surprised RE4 only sold so few in comparison.
From what i remember, it was received very well no?

GameCube's install base was small. It still was one of the system's best selling titles but there weren't many GameCubes out there to sell more than it did. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_GameCube_video_games

Hell you can see that the Wii re-release (the Wii was an extremely popular console) outsold it.

Nope. But this year is the 20th year anniversary for the game. So if possible they will definitely push for Christmas 2018. But they might not make it.

Hahaha yeah. That guy cracks me up because even as a kid he was so obviously there to die. Zombies are on the loose and he's just chilling behind the counter of his store which has a glass window without any bars.

Man those were the good old days, 12 year old me taking turns playing this game with my 10yo brother. This was less scary than 1 for me back then, but I will admit I had trouble sleeping and had nightmares thanks to the diaries in the games.

Overactive imagination kept me up at night, which was worse for the first game because of that itchy things when turning to a zombie. I'd be like "oh shit i'm itching oh no"

Hahaha what a stupid kid.
