Anyone know when the Ryzen R3 will get released?

Thinking of upgrading my crappy Turion dual-core in my Homeserver.

I think "Q3" is still the only info we have, haven't seen any rumored dates beyond that.

If they can keep the performance then AMD might have a really good enthusiast class CPU with their 1900 Ryzen models, going to be interesting to see what Intel plans to respond with.
(16 cores at 4 Ghz is going to consume a bit of power though and generate a bit of heat...nothing new compared to Intel and their i7's though from recent debacles around their issues.)

Intel response is a CPU with 2 more cores and 1000 dollars higher price tag Laughing, AMD is doing very strong now with their CPU's, GJ AMD, cant wait to get my 1950X.

Janz pls leave this topic, no one wants to hear your constant intel dick sucking. For the record, AMD is currently more power efficient than intel, for example their 8 core / 16 thread cpu consumes same amount of power than intel 4 core / 8 threads. AMD has done really good job with their pricing and performance, only retard would argue. Those cores can be used for many nice things (even in home usage), but ofcourse if you just troll in the HW section and play pc ports that uses 2 cores then its different story. Cant wait to get my 1950X, haters can buy the upcoming 18 core intel CPU for 1999 dollars Cool Face

For a Networking guy like myself who wants to run mutiple VM's etc these Ryzen chips are a godsend. Will be buying one in a couple weeks.
Losing a tiny few if any from a 4.4ghz 4570k fps in video games at 1080p isn't going to have any impact. The gains in multi threaded apps and running services etc will be invaluable. My current intel chip struggles.

if you are rendering stuff all day or using many vms (which isnt homeuse application case) yes. otherwise -> nope

its not about its bad, its about 99% doenst need it atm. if other applications begin to scale better with more cores/threads than 4/8 we will have a different picture. but that will take another 2-3 years

Possibly to first, and yes to 2nd.

Well, if you only need to decide between those too: definately the ASRock.

I keep reading so many bad stories about Gigabyte boards.
Just a few months ago when i did my Ryzen build too and searched for a board.

Yea, I think I'll go with the Taichi board.

About the head down to microcenter to pick up the bundle Very Happy

So my final specs should be:

1700X, ASRock x370 Taichi, CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16), Samsung EVO 960 500GB m.2 drive, carrying over is my Noctua cooler (got the AM4 bracket), EVGA 1080ti SC2 video card, and SoundBlaster Z card, and some sata SSD drivers.

Should last me another 5 years or so Very Happy

This is coming from 3770k, 16gb ram, and ASRock Extreme 7 somethingOrAnother mobo.

I mostly do productivity work with a bit of gaming here and there, so 16 threads should be good Very Happy

Very nice!

I didn't know that Soundblaster is still in business. I though they were dead for several years already.
And i also had the impression, that nowadays onboard soundchips are pretty good. Especially on the higher end mainboards.

I thought you still require soundcards for slightly more special things, like virtual surround for headphones.
I personally aim to use HDMI for audio, where literally anything should be capable of emitting bit-perfect sound.

bobby is right, if you dont need a headphone amplifier or some of the connection options the soundcard offers (including dts connect or dolby live; dunno which one is supported by the sb z) you can stick with the onboard sound

and in nuis case for example the soundcard is completely useless when he wants to grad the sound digitally. doenst matter if via hdmi or optical or coax digital outputs the board may offer. unless you need dolby live or dts connect as i said Wink

My Klipsch speakers sound completely differently coming off a dedicated sound card compared to onboard.

For the record, my 10+ year old sound blaster xfi sounded better than onboard coming from my current ASRock z77 extreme 7 (I think it's z77). The sound blaster z that I just got, sounds WAY better than the xfi.

I also have Beyerndynamic 250amp headphones that benefit from this card Smile

depends on the chip, yours most likely has the ALC898 which is crap compared to the ALC1150. and the taichi uses the newer ALC1220 which is even better than the 1150. absolutely no reason to get a dedicated soundcard unless you need a headphone amplifier etc
