Well I'm just saying the weakest parts of these movies were the alien parts for me. I have no problem with the David character and his plotline, my problem lies in let's put a xenomorph here to appease derp audience factor.

I can live with all the other 'they arnt wearing helmets?!' moments in these films too. Such minor irrelevant details to the story telling. I often forget derps have a PhD is astrobiology of the 26th century...

Well, wait.. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE ALIEN(s) present here and there.. this is 2017 after all: audiences of the modern era cannot handle deep-thought provoking imagery or subtle plot devices WITHOUT adding "the shock" or "hooks" to get them interested. Maybe decades ago this would work where you didn't have to "spoon feed the audience" but, nowadays, I'm afraid you have to offer most of it all in just to wake up the ADHD-laden bums in the seats. Sad

@thudo completely agree, you only have to look at popularity of superhero movies to get a good guage of avg. Moviegoer intelligence.

I just came to realize something... This is actually the worst alien film.

I thought about it and realized that for all it's faults, alien 4 actually had pretty well defined and somewhat memorable characters, who you could actually give a tiny shit about (or express satisfaction) when they died, but this movie actually had nothing of the kind. I felt nothing for each death, therefore making this films one redeeming feature (the alien/gore/action sequences), largely irrelevant...

God.. How fucking depressing... I hated alien 4...

Edit: you know what, I'm gong to allow avp films to count, just so I can say avp2 is the worst alien film... I just don't think I can accept Ridley making a such a shit entry into a franchise he created and started so fucking supremely.

Yeah its a shame its going to be compared to alien franchise films. They've done a disservice to everyone with this film, want an alien film? nope fuck you aliens take a backseat, enjoyed Prometheus? nope fuck you have some xenomorphs.

for me its Alien a masterpiece & Aliens also very good > the rest of the franchise pretty much garbage with the AVderP movies being flat out offensive.

This i not an 'Alien' movie. It's a sequel to Prometheus, with some aliens in it.
Now I wish Blomkamp's version hasn't been shut down.

Quote:
Director Ridley Scott’s planned Alien: Covenant sequels are reportedly shrouded in uncertainty right now, with 20th Century Fox currently busy “reassessing” the franchise’s future. This news comes several months after Alien: Covenant was released to disappointing box office receipts, with the film’s box office totals adding up to just a little over half of what 2012’s Prometheus made. While Covenant was originally pitched and built up as being a return to form for the Alien franchise, with the latest installment not only adopting the same name but also basic structure and tone of the original 1979 Alien film, it proved to be a much different experience than some fans might have been expecting.

Really looking forward to the commentary by Scott. Be interesting to hear what his delusional mind has to offer.

lol "master class: ridley scott"

oh boy, the delusion.. and 55 minutes at that.

the only thing i would have wanted (and i hope its part of that "master class", but i doubt it) is a nice long segment on the alien development/theory/design, and also in depth look at the cgi.

Still can't get over how shit that human dummy face looked during "that" scene. So often I watch movies and actually hav no idea how scenes are done (some times I'm genuinely surprised when I see how they're done) or at least I don't think about how it's done until I watch it again or think about the film after it's over...

What I'm getting at was that it was so obviously badly done it looked so fake it took me right out of the moment...and that doesn't usually happen with films of this budget and (supposed) talent.

Well first of all he just directed the first movie. Giger and O'Bannon created Alien and were involved throughout the whole production.

Yes but to go from making one of the best films in the franchise that got everything pretty much perfect, to a film where he gets almost every aspect fundamentally wrong, is a rediculous and unacceptable fail, especially since this is a man with so many fantastic films under his belt... Even more rediculous given that so many aspects that failed in this film, are ones he's consistently nailed wonderfully in previous films.

That he only did one previous film has nothing to do with being so rightfully incredulous of his failure with alien 5

Watch only after you have seen the movie.

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

And here is the text and illustrations that come with it: http://www.scifimoviezone.com/aliencovenantadvent.shtml

Again, don't read it until you have seen the film, but it explains a few stuff about David & Shaw + hints at the direction of the next film (Alien Queen?).

what i would have loved, is if alien condiment ended with

 Spoiler:

They load up a ship with alien eggs with the plan of doing to us what we did to them, but alien escapes, ship crashes, alien canon remains preserved.

that way ridley could still continue on - do whatever he wants with his 'new' spikey aliens, make up a whole entire backstory and new continuation, very cleverly without fucking up the original canon.

but pretty sure none of that is going to happen. I like my idea, but ridley is determined to let his senility destroy the franchise once at for all

Yeah nothing special besides the "crossing plaza scene", that was great to see all the engineers ships parked below the surface. Smile

I recommend for you to wait until the 5 featurettes are avaliable online, and the master class doc.

In the mean time read this : http://www.scifimoviezone.com/aliencovenantadvent.shtml
