It's actually pretty watchable with nice naval combat.

Yep, still entertaining but they skimp on explosions and went CGI/stock crap
And there wasn't much politics they really fast went to shootin' and killin'; Fuck Yeah USA.

Finally got around to watch this and I was actually surprised how good it is/was.
I remember having watched the first few episodes when it originally aired, but it had too much of the "Goody McGood" wipe or maybe I didn't really pay attention.
I thought it would be a show that has like every episode another "we get there, solve a problem, move on" and also was very "for all audiences".
And I am glad I was actually wrong.
The first few episodes are still the weakest, IMHO. The Russians just weren't good protagonists.
Then you have that Swedish(?) future Punisher friend scientist who added his DNA to the virus... ok, whatever... and then he wants to kill everyone still alive... sure.
But the show quickly changed tones and became quite dark and gritty.
The plot armour is thin. Almost no one is safe from death or mutilation. Even the Ship gets it in the end.
Anyway, it's absolutely worth a binge. Just fight through the first few episodes

100% agreed, was way better than I was expecting, the pace is good too, very little bs, no "villain of the episode" bullshit or any of that episodic garbage.
