Make it a 1000$ perhaps and that could work to deter quicker almost scam releases and it wouldn't be that difficult to recoup either. Smile
(~100 or so sales for a 10$ game, bit more after Valve takes their cut of the profits so ~130 or so sales.)

EDIT: Then again 5000 works too and far as publishing is concerned it's probably not that expensive all things considered, surely a serious game developer would aim to sell more than a a few hundred copies.

Whether it's a full 3D game, 2D or something like a VN or a VR experience, even it it doesn't reach "AAA" tier of sales some 1000+ copies at 5$ to 10$ and that's done.

For the fees they just need to find the sweet spot to filter out most of the crap games, but still give serious devs a lucrative possibility to release their game.

+1

While I want Valve to do something about the Greenlight system but they should also keep the currency conversion rate around the world in mind too.

Maybe charge the fee based on that, I don't know.

Less and you'll have the same crap on Steam that Greenlight provides.

Portal writer Erik Wolpaw has left Valve
"You want your freedom? Take it."

Quote:
Valve writer Erik Wolpaw has left the famous Bellevue, Washington studio as of today.

"Last day at Valve!" Wolpaw said on Facebook (via Valve News Network). "People marching their crap out of the office in a box is the central theme of 90 per cent of what Pinkerton and I write, and now I'm finally doing it for real."

Wolpaw is known for his work on such Valve games as Portal, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, and Half-Life 2: Episodes 1 & 2. Prior to his time at Valve, Wolpaw worked on Psychonauts at Double Fine, and he's collaborating with that studio again on Psychonauts 2.

While the Valve News Network tweet indicated that fellow Portal 2 scribe Jay Pinkerton had left as well, Pinkerton clarified on Twitter that he still works at Valve.

I guess this means Wolpaw won't be working on Valve's three mysterious VR games - unless he already penned the scripts.

VR PR guy. If you read a VR statement by Valve in the last few years, it was probably by him.

Also a writer for Half-Life 2: EP1 and EP2, L4D1 and L4D2 and Portal 1 & 2.

I don't think Valve has any writers left.

Or maybe Valve doesn't need the writers any more because the games are finished and release is imminent

They have (at least) 4. Jay Pinkerton, Steve Jaros, Kristopher Katz, Sheila Sadeghi.

The fans.

For a pledge of 10$ they can send in their texts. They then have a change, that their text gets chosen to be ingame.

What for though. As HL3 will never happen anyways, and their current games are running by themselves. Laughing Crying or Very sad

Well I still expect big things from Valve in the next couple of years. You don't spend 6 or so years building a new engine from the ground up and not showcase anything to get developers onboard. I dont think Valve will release run of the mill crap, with the money they make its all about showcasing new tech.

DOTA card game....

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
