im using a board with alc1150 and it's far from GOOD.
it's ok but the microphone line in quality is shit and the soundquality coming out is also just ok.
for my personal taste and low standards it's more then enough, also i don't like or want soundcards in my case. but don't tell people it's awesome and enough, when it's only ok for people who don't give a fuck.
of course those cheap asus xonar soundcards are no way better (or even worse?) but getting a nice quality soundblaster card is always good for people who can hear the difference.

and it depends on how good the mainboard oem build the chip onto the board too, if its susceptible to interference its bad ofc. but there are many good boards out there. would recommend to test it before paying 70-150 bucks for a maybe useless soundcard
and i never said its awesome, i just said its good and on par in terms of quality (if its not interfering with for example the power supplys "noises") with cheaper soundcards nowadays

but it is not on par, atleats not as long as you buy something better then a asus xonar.(which is indeed on par)
im not even talking about interference. it's about quality. like i said im no fan of soundcards myself, i can live with a bit less quality and don't have the need of a soundcard in my case and maybe shitty drivers and all of that. but it may be better for other people, so don't say it's not needed at all or useless

always depends on your soundsystem.any cheap (means below 300 euros) analogue stuff there is no difference you could really hear. only if you need a headphone amplifier without another device on your desk or need the optical inputs or whatever these cards offer (thats the both things why i have a soundblaster card inside my pc, headphones and optical input. otherwise i would use the onboard sound) you need an extra card. the sbz isnt better than the xonar for example, hell its even worse than the old xfi (but creative driver support is shit, even for new cards)

What the hell are you smoking? The ASUS Xonar DGX is an amazing card and has superior software to anything Creative comes up with as well. The Xonar U7 is brilliant as well.

i had one and it's as good as my onboard chip. there is NO difference at all to the ALC1150.
also funny that you speak about the software so well. oh boy what a disaster that was.
while i agree that creative software isn't the best, the software which came with it the xonar was a pure clusterfuck.
the opensource drivers/software was a little bit better but still worse then anything i have ever seen.
if you want to buy a soundcard, then atleast get a good one, which is better then a onboard chip. otherwise there is no point

I think I settled on the Taichi board. I'll definitely compare the sound quality of onboard to my soundblaster z.

thats what im saying the whole time. and the sbz isnt particularly better than the ALC1220 which even offers dts connect (though most of the alc chips do that, but are locked with their drivers cause they have to pay license stuff for that. can be unlocked with modified drivers on most chips)

Quoting myself, ran tests in gaming, music, movies, etc. Onboard sound is still shit. Feels flat and in action games, it seems to be missing channels/sounds.
Back to Creative I went.

Now that Ryzen matured pretty good, you must either be an Intel fanboy or have a contract with them for your IT Infrastructure if you still keep buying them.

That's not true. Industry NEEDS reliability. time is money, downtime is a big loss.
The cost of these processors is nothing to big industry so they will stick with what they know works. They will not jump to a new platform. Not until it is much more established and proven. Intel have the market tied up still regardless.

Industry don't really buy up HEDT cpu's in mass.
